FOR A GRAND YOU WOULD THINK......

Minelab would give you rechargeable battery, headphones with the Safari.

An inexpensve solution - and better than the pack from Minelab - is to look in your Sunday paper for sales at Office Supply stores (or on-line at the auction sites) for a set of NiMH batteries and a rapid charger. I recently got a set of eight 2400 mAH batteries and the charger for around $25. They last far longer than the stock 1600 - 1800 mAH packs and cost far less. I use this setup even on my Explorers and E-Trac.

Andy, what is the make of batteries, and where did you get them? Do you know if they are Japanese or Chinese Batteries? Ralph from SunRay once told me to Only BUY Japanese Made Batteries, because they are much quality!! HH, Les

I noticed Sam's club has 8, 2450 mAH batteries and charger for about $25. I was thinking it might be a good buy but can only charge 4 batteries at a time. Is there a charger out there that can charge 8 batteries at a time? Can you buy it as a kit, 8 batteries and charger that charges 8 batteries?
Thanks for reading and the info.....Z

Hi-yes there is one that charges 8 in one go-made by a company called VANSON (model V-nine nine eight)-its supplied as a freebie with most new quattros and explorers here in the U.K.-bruno.

Either do a Google search or visit the auction site . . . . . . there are some great deals out there

Here's one with an 8 cell charger + 16 AA NiMH batteries with a 2650 mAh rating for about $35 with shipping.

NiMH Battery Set & Charger

This offers way more power than the 1600 mAH packs that come with the detector.

I use a couple of sets for my Quattro. I use one set, and charge the others. I got a set of Rayovacs, and they are pretty good, but the Engergizers are unbeatable.
I would caution anyone on buying unbranded batteries on Ebay. I bought two sets and chargers on one of the ebay auctions. They batteries and chargers were junk.
The batteries with a full charge only lasted about 4 hours, and after charging them a couple of times they didn't hold a charge at all. I think the chargers didn't shut off as the batteries got to full charge, and it cooked 'em. But even new they weren't worth the shipping, and that was free!

ive tried nimh batteries and never had any luck they would die within about an hour and a half i know the battery packs are nimh but i dont know hw strong i have the green energizers i think there 2400 or 2600 ma im not positive but ive had the best luck with rechargable rayovac batteries but you cant get them anymore they told me from rayovac they dont make them anymore the difference i see id nimh is 1.2 volts where alkaline batteries are standard 1.5 volt when i use 8 of these inmy minelab i get at the very least 13.7 volts because they always charge alittle more then 1.5 the best bateries ive everused were caled ultracell they look just lke duracell but they were lithium they would last twice as long as any battery i had ever used the only problem is they werent rechargable but i didnt mind when something said battery life 20 hours and was lasting 45 hours

Tigerdirect.com sell thems for 2.25 for a twelve pack. I bought 4 packs + shipping for 17.90.

Hi everyone i use maha battery's and chargers and battery's have been using same set of battery's [2 sets of 8 for my xs 16 battery's] for 9 years. My #2 pack is not holding charge as long. I know i have gotten my $$$$$$$$$$$$$$ out of them they are 1600mahr good and proper charging makes them last

I did what Andy did, only I went to a huge electronics store here in San Diego called Fry's. Whoops!!!, I hope I don't get in trouble for mentioning a store name, but, like Andy said, they're a pretty good deal, to buy them that way. I bought an "8 banger" or so charger, and 2 sets of Nmh batteries. I even went so far as to order a spare "standard battery pack(just the standard holder for the AA batteries) from Minelab, in order to put the second set of "AA" bateries into after charging them, so now I have 2 sets of "individual" batteries (AA) that I put into my two minelab standard battery holders and when one runs out, I just grab the other one and stick it in to the detector. When I get home, I pull out the drained rechargable Nmh batteries from thier holder and put em in the charger for 10 or 12 hours, and I'm good to go again. Works for me, at least, and they seem to last for quite a while per pack. Heck, even if you only get 4 or 5 good hours out of them, who cares, ?? just slip in the other set. Marc Trainor.
