What do you NOT like about the SE?

C'mon now, there must be something!

You probably think this is some kind of bomb but it is not, I am thinking of buying one and, before spending that much money, inquiring minds want to know.

It still doesn't come with an attached XRay vision Video camera mounted just ahead of the coil.

Bob,

I used to duct tape Superman to the lower shaft. Great discrimination abilities but boy that's alot of weight to swing around.

Perhaps I will try this again when they come up with a more petite superhero with X-ray vision.

Chris

I'm with you Bob, the SE is sadly lacking in the X-Ray vision department,,I don't know what's the matter with Minelab,,time they got their act together.

Happing Hunting.....Boony

The screen could be a bit darker. It gets a bit tough to see with the cover on it.

Don't get one; they are heavy, hard to learn and black in color. Please keep using your old machine. That way I can go get the stuff you missed.

Seriously though, I am not qualified to really answer this question since I am only using the EII. The only down side to the Explorers is the weight (which isn't too bad). If you like to use the screen alot then the slow cursor response is also a negative. The tones are right on but the cursor only moves to the correct spot after a threshold returns. This can be pretty quick or never depending on the trash/discriminated items near the target. You would think Minelab could come up with a better way to get the cursor moving. For me it is rarely a problem since I mainly go by the tone. I would switch to a different detector if I thought there was a better one out there. JMHO

Hope this helps - BF

THIS IS NOT A BASHING, THIS IS IMPROVEMENTS THAT CAN BE MADE

With the technology availible you could make a lighter and better balanced design....

The coil potting could be lighter, Example: Take other coils for the same detector made by after-market makers are larger and mounting in the middle of coil.

The electronic's were some of the cutting edge in 2000. Now it is time to make them smaller. We have seen this in many electronics the past few years..Cell phones, computers, PDA's ect;

These are just a few thoughts......And hoping that these are the things that will steer any newer detector's that we may see in the future.

I will keep using my Explorer's and finding great things until there is a newer model to add to my stable. But one can hope that the manufacture's will put more into the R&D of the things mentioned.

These are only the opinion of one.....

But we know to drive all the extras we need that power. After down sizing the power pack then comes the housing. Once that is done we now have a machine that looks and operates like any other machine.
HMMM.

The power source can be rearranged for better weight and balance. Now that brings up the next question.

The X-terra is powered by 4 AA's.....and it has an LCD. Why are we still using 8 AA's.

That I don't have one yet - still using the EX-II and other makes. I haven't done well at all for awhile - I wonder if the SE would do me better.

I've not had my SE long, but it seems they should have gave the screen a better angle. The evening is a problem especially with the hood on it. Glare, sunset etc.. Just my thought PP

something done to vastly improve the viewing screen in sunlight. It is very difficult to see...at least for me...and I don't think after dropping over a grand on a detector that we should have to modify it ourselves with panty hose...etc.
Other than that to me there isn't a better machine out there until they come up with one that will dig the holes for us!
