For the poor schleps who couldn't afford to purchase the new ETrac

First off as far as I recall Charles sold the machine after a week - I don't know him well, don't care how good he is or not, but you just can't learn the ET in a week or two. I respect Jim's abilities with the Explorer and feel he probably one of the better users and he has put time into the ET, but maybe those that really got used to the unnatural use of ferrous tones with a wide open screen as well as the idiosyncrasies of the Explorer's slanted target zone for coins are having the hardest time adapting to the ET. There has never been any proof that this is the BEST way to run the machine and there are conductive hunters that do just as good if not better. The DigitRich post is over the top as far as I'm concerned bashing the machine like that and his claims of finding close to 700 coins in a farm field also sound somewhat suspect unless someone burried or lost a very large amount of coins there for some odd reason and he stumbled upon it - I don't know....He's welcome to come to NJ and hunt with me as I have an ET, SE, and two XS's.

Have made the same offer to Jim twice on the forum, but he's never replied so I guess he feels I'm not good enough with the Explorer - though I doubt he hears targets that I don't. I see a lot of guys getting turned off of the idea of buying an ET because of the original post and the many complaints by Rich before this last one and that's a shame. I see too many good hunters on the ET forum doing really well with the machine to put stock in just 2 or 3 negative opinions of the machine. I hope you don't feel that these are the definitive opinions on the ETs capabilities. I would need to see a much bigger sample of opinions from guys that have used the machine for at least six months - not as in some cases six days or even six weeks.

Don't worry Digitrich! We all get frustrated sometime. After reading all the stuff about the E_TRAC I don't think its for me either. But if others can find something good,well then great! Thanks for the comments. To hunt successfully one needs to have confidence with the equipment. That machine is obviously not for you, back up and evaluate then go from there. Find the combination that's fit for YOU.

So far from what I read the E-Track is comparable to the Explorer. Folks that think this is a step up to a better machine will most likely be disappointed (if they are proficient with the Explorer). This is exactly what I want to know. My experience buying the SE really left me disappointed in ML. In their defense though they can hardly come up with a revolutionary upgrade/machine every time. When the folks that really know and use the Explorer give an opinion on a new machine, it helps me. Thanks guys!

They left the sweet tones alone, didn't map the conducts all to the 12 value so a hunter still had a legitimate all metal option, if he so chose; and did something about the falsing on the top line for small nails. That last one is a real pain in the

I still do not understand why they did this. If they had just left it alone. The adage, "if it works don't fix it certainly applied in this case." I think you meant to say in the above, "didn't map the ferrous all to the 12 value..." Minelab still has not come out and explained this big difference or why it is superior to the old way. It's not like they do not know how some people feel about it because people who work there frequent here and are quite active in doing so and they have seen the uproar it caused.

If they are not explaining its superiority then it is apparent it is not a superior way.

eric, theres probably alot of people who bought one from the super positive posts that flooded the forum when it first came out so richs post may have just balanced out peoples thoughts enough to just slow down a bit and not jump on an Etrac.
I might eventually try one but for now Im gonna enjoy my explorer and see how opinions evolve over the etrac, give it time.

Hey Jim,

This is my second or third post here in eight years. I'm a lurker and a learner. Three weeks after you started posting about the XS I ordered mine. Over the years I have learned much from your posts. If I have a question I always seem to come back looking for info from 'Jim from Upstate NY'. This has worked well for me.

Exactly two days after the forum started yakking about the new 'improved' Etrac, I put in a call to Kellyco, credit card in hand. Then I stopped and hung up. I wondered what 'Jim' would say about the Exp. replacement.....So I waited and you came through. I am now the proud owner of a new Exp SE Pro with Sunray probe installed. I thank you for your honest input AND instruction.

I am sorry if I have embarrassed you with all the smoke up your skirt.....BUT most of these guys who question your judgement were not around, using, learning and posting results as you were, eight or nine years ago at the Explorers birth. Keep up the good work buddy. Truth will set us all free.

Some of us really love the new E-trac and if you get the Lost Treasure Magazine there is a field test by Andy Sabisch on this new E-Trac in the latest issue. I found it to be very interesting reading and going to read the full article on the Lost Treasure web site too.
One thing on the E Trac it uses some of the Explorer technology plus some of the new so it works a bit different than the Explorer and you can not run it like you do a Explorer, I find it is easier to use myself.

I have seen that this New Coil works better than the Original Stock 10.5" Coil that came with the Explorer. It seems to be a bit more Sensitive and it can Seperate in the Trash and Iron a lot better also. It's lighter weight and the only down side of this Coil is that it gets caught on twigs and such. Other than that, it's an awesome Coil and worth purchasing. Good Luck and HH.
