For those of you fairly new to the forum need to know about the Coveted Golden Whelk Award ....

The Coveted Golden Whelk is a traveling award given by the current holder to someone else on the Friends and Finds Forum for being caught or admitting to doing something funny, stupid, or just plain amazing (good, bad, or questionable).

The Golden Whelk started off as just a SW Florida whelk shell with an aluminum pull tab stuck in its opening and then spray painted gold.

The first Golden Whelk award winner was Charlie of KY in April of 2005. He and his lovely wife Beverly were beach and water detecting with me when I found the whelk in the water at Bowman
