For those who own both ...

For those who own both a Xterra and Etrac, which do you use the most. A very informed forum member stated he uses his Xterra for fields and playground type areas and the Etrac for smaller areas. My hunting is usually in larger field areas so I tend to you my Xterra more also. I don't feel I'm sacrificing much in depth when using the 10.5" DD coil, it's still lighter than the Etrac, and allows a faster sweep speed. That being said, seems kinda dumb for me to have an Etrac as a "backup" machine.

I own both and you aren't going to miss much using the Xterra. That being said...I still like to use the Etrac. With the X1 probe it makes up a little for the slower sweep speed with somewhat faster recovery, but that is even more money. What can I say...we like our hobby and like to spend money on it!

Hey Dirtangler - I owned both, sold the Etrac, still have the 705. After doing a good deal of testing this past summer, I found these high-end detectors, those costing $1,000 or more, simply do not find and more then md's costing much less. In fact, my $460 detector, with no display, has performed just a good as any of the high-end units. As I mentioned in other forums, at some point, spending more doesn't translate into finding more. Are these high-end units good? Actually they're great! There simply comes a point where additional spending becomes superfluous. In the end, it's really not as much the detector as the person using it. Success is about developing a sound technique, be patient, and overlap those coil swings. By the way, I'm lovin' this 705!

Had the ETEAC, Whites V3, F75 and numerouse other that are no longer with me. Still have Xterra 70. Fun and easy to use, light, and is just about as deep as anything out there. Still wish ML would come out with some slim line style DD coils for it.

I haven't used my 705 much yet, but the lightwt. is great. I own a dfx and like it well, but it gets heavy in a hurry. The etrac is right up there with the dfx wt. wise.

I was planning on getting an etrac eventually too, but the 705 is fairly simple and packs a lot of options for the buck.

I think doing research and knocking on doors will get you a lot more finds than getting a better detector.

I'm flabbergasted by how much is being asked for top detectors these days. There seems to be a common theme in corporate these days...keep jacking prices until they stop buying.

So Mike, if you could only keep one, which would it be - the Vaquero or the 705? I'm planning to replace my shadow X2 with one of those two machines. Most of my hunting is on the dry sand in SoCal.

I use the 705 with 6" DD coil around buildings and on both salt and fresh water beaches with the stock 9" coil for faster ground cover sweeps. These mid range detectors are all great if you take the time too learn how to use them. To many beginners expect to find GOLD rings first time out NOT SO. My friend Dave has a Fisher 1280 and can't find much, problem is his coil is to high off the ground and at the end of each swing it's a foot off the ground. I see people at the beaches walking a mile a minute
and complain that the beach is hunted out, not so you will never clean out a beach in a life time. I hunt the same beaches and school yards over and over and always find more coins and jewelry. I can't understand why you would keep the coil 8-10" off the ground and then say the detector is junk and send it back for repair

have both and it really is a personal choice we all either connect or not with a machine having said that it takes time to make a connection only ever picked up one machine i liked from day dot well 2 etrac was one of them xterra wasn't but sure glad i took some time with it very nice machine smooth and sweet i would call it .

depends on what you are going to be using a machine for?

no such thing as a back up detector they are either keepers or sellers if they have a place then use them there if not get rid of them that's my theory anyway.

buy try keep or dispose :lmfao:
