He was driving his Cord car at a high speed across the desert near Wickenburg when he came over a knoll and there was a road grader right in front of him. He even stood up trying to get more pressure on his brakes but he hit it---When the cord stopped he got out of his Cord made one step and died of a broken neck because a suitcase came loose from the Rumble seat and hit him in the neck !
