I hit my usually totters with the F70 and a fury this am...Empty again! Last year they were good for a few bucks each, but SOMEBODY has figured out my pattern and cleaned them out this past month before I get there Sat am. I mean cleant the hell out! This person has obviously dropped sens and worked them good on Friday nights or maybe all through the week... I got a few pennys and 2 dimes out of three of them before I decided to change tactics..
So I went freestylin' and pulled 2 bucks of clean clad, and another 6 bucks of dirty coinstar destined clad, 3 bucks of empty cans just so I could buy a few beers and a pack of smokes!

Hit some nice Q spills along the fencelines where a guy can see is a natural fence jump spot. sniped up a bunch of dimes..stabbed all the pennys, and chased every can....I dont like peeling empty cans from the dedicated can hunters, and there's a lot of them here with empties bringing a dime apiece and all, some on foot, some on bike, and thats tough duty for those poor souls, but whats a guy to do when hes thirsty and down to his last cigarette? The thing is with gas in the mid 3 buck range, a guy has to make coin in a hurry and in a short radius.
I think I've depleted the primary and secondary spots and am working the tertiary drop zones in my area at the moment..when they are mined out, I will be forced to change from clad to something else to get me through the winter. I looked in the trash can at one park as I always do, and it was obvious that some detectorist had just dumped his scrap pouch in there within 24 hrs...all sorts of pulltabs with the grass roots still in them, screwoffs, rotten crown caps and scrap that was certainly dug goods. I'd like to run into this guy...good hunter from the signs of it..
Anyway, I got home at 10:30 with 2 24oz beers, a pack of smokes and a few bucks left over...I am evaluating my hunting strategy, cant keep running with no gas in the tank..
Still, its sort of fun to figure out who this is, and try to out run, or out gun them if I can...horrible thought...If I did not smoke or drink, this hobby would pay for itself, or at least break even on fuel..if I had to give up cigarettes and beer or detecting, I'd be stone cold sober, nicotine free,... and detecting! What a healthy addiction this is!

Mud we just found out we have a small group of guys out from the garrett team in our area wearing out our beaches and local spots, kinda makes it difficult to find the new spots to hunt, since gas is 3 bucks a gallon it's hard to make myself drive a long ways to find those new spots, and then it's possible to run into even more seasoned hunters there when you arrive at the new locals. Makes me ask are the good times really gone for good? Lol. We are smart we will discover new untouched areas to collect coinage from.

Mud welcome to my world. Had favorite places that I hit weekly and easily pick up a 100 or more coins. Now not much there. Stopped going to those sites. The ones hitting them are good not leaving much but a few coins. I never see em but he leaves all the trash on top of the ground and holes aren't covered. Mums the word if you just happen to find a different way of hunting.... Z

Mud, I smoked most of my life, two packs a day towards the end and I couldn't imagine not ever smoking. I quite nearly 7 years ago and once I broke the addiction, I never missed not smoking. My lungs feel tons better. Looking back I realized now what a dope I was for smoking those nasty things.

I used Chantix to break the habit. It really works!

Thanks guys...yeah I think mums the word and PM each other if a new tactical area is discovered...I'd rather keep these guys in the totlots picking up pencil ends and zippers for as long as possible.
Tab, I didnt start smoking until I was in my mid 30's..I can sort of tell its time to put 'em down for a while..and maybe save up that money for gas or gear..I think if I start diving again it would help, since they are hard to get lit under water!
Mud

I put them down when my kid was born it was hard for a little while, maybe a month or two, but well worth it in the end. Just had to stay mentally strong and convince myself that's what I wanted to do. I would also like to be in the loop of the "PM's" for the new locals.

Hay guys I smoked cigars on and off for forty years. Used to get a box of 50 cigars that were a pretty decent smoke for $9. At 21 years old I smoked Cuban cigars daily for 18 months when I was in the service. Some of best memories have a cigar in one hand and a vodka in the other. Doc told wife she had a touch of emphysema. Her best friend had just died of emphysema so she got scared and wanted to quit smoking after 35 years. She asked me if I would quit and help her through the process. Almost 10 years ago. Don't miss paying $8 a cigar but sometime I would kill the guy that is smoking that great cigar on the street.
On the mums thing Mud that is a good idea. There are number of lurkers that never contribute but sponge. One thing we all need to do is to continue remember there are millions upon millions of coins and jewelry still in the ground to be found. Lets not make coins/jewelry a scarcity. We create our reality. Thanks for looking. Happy Trails........Z

Hi guys -- love reading you Mud Puppy -- like reading a dime detective novel -- you got a way with words, ye bum. Yeah, smokes, I quitum 12 years ago but on a hunt, with the tall leggy blonde I call my wife, no where close, I pull a couple of drags on a Swishers Sweet. Sure, what we got goin' is a renewable resource, remember? But every now and then I see the tracks of some other bum in my territory and he is leaving his Swisher Sweet wrappers all over the place. Me? I'm careful as cat burglar taking all my tracks with me. This other bum is leaving behind big holes, and pry marks -- figure I'll get blamed for them sooner or later and the fuzz will ask me to scram. Nah, they ain't gonna listen to me, just another bum pinching pennies at the local park -- but I'm clean man, really clean, but what's the use, no one believes a bum like me, suckin' on a Swishers and swinging an F70 like -- how did you say it once, Mud? Oh, yeah, "'like a weed whacker". If I run into the guy giving me a bad name I will .... ah, what's the use -- I'll pick up his trash and clean his holes with the heel of my boot, if ye know what I mean, and keep collecting what he is missing. Yeah, sure, I cruise through here and collect all the gems you guys dish out -- why not, its free, right. Besides, you guys are so good I have yet to find anything to add, so I take -- I take all you got to dish and thank you for it, but that's all I got, thanks for being there, thanks for letting me know I ain't alone, thanks for being real and proving I ain't outta my skull, thanks for -- well just thanks, that's all I got. Hey mudpuppy Russ here aka Treasurebone. Always a joy to read your posts my friend! I just picked up an F75LTD and am getting use to it, but I still love my F70. Great versatile machine! Take care!

Kind regards,

Russ

I GUESS THIS A CALLING ON THIS POST. I ALWAYS LOVED MY CIGARETTES AND CHEAP CIGARS FOR FOURTY YEARS,BUT FAILED BREATHING TESTS AND COULDN'T HAVE AN OPERATION 2 MONTHS AGO. I QUIT SMOKING, AND AM USING ELECTRONIC CIGARETTES MODERATELLY, AND HAD MY OPERATION LAST WEEK. I'TS A WONDER, BECAUSE I WAS HOOKED BADLY. MIRACLES DO HAPPEN. HH-MARK

I just put the cigs down about 15 years ago and never looked back. In fact, I still have a carton with 9 new packs and a partial pack in it in my closet. The wife wanted to throw them away and I would not let her. As long as they are there, I'm fine. Of course, they would probably burst into flames if I tried to smoke them now. I've also got a brand new pack of Lucky Strike greens from WWII, with the cellophane still intact......they ought to be really good!! At $70 a carton, I sure am glad I did!
