Forest Park gives up Seated Dime #100 finally!!! :buds:

Cool windy day... showed up to my favorite park for another dance. Trying to find one more Seated Dime. A very daunting task anymore due to the destruction of a lot of productive ground during the past decade and a half of construction work and overhunting of what few areas are left with Seated potential. A small spot in the middle of a 19th century picnic area littered with a carpet of pulltabs from drinkers in the 1970's, I slowly troll through scores of pulltab hits for the umpteenth time in 25 years of hunting.

I always held a feeling that there was Seated hiding under all that crap somewhere and I aimed to prove myself right today. After 20 minutes of machinegun rapid fire tab signals I get near to the edge of the trash and suddenly get a signal I haven't heard out here in months, years for that matter... a clean, solid DEEP silver signal!!! No mistaking this one!

I dig down about 7 inches and the probe is locked on top of a solid penny signal - a sure sign of a Seated Dime!!! Unless it was a very deep wheatie, that is... but this picnic area almost never gives up anything less than 110 years old from this depth. I pop up a clump from the bottom of the hole and wave the probe over it - Bingo! I look it over and catch the glimpse of what I hoped to see - a thin white edge!

Pretty sure of what it was, I took it back to the van and left it for when I got home to open it up. That was the only remarkable target I found for the rest of the day. I finally got around to the clump in the evening after the hectic home life activities subsided and took some photos as I opened it... I'll let the pics do the talking:

This old lady is my 100th Seated Dime from Forest Park... a milestone I've been aiming at for years! Other Seated coins found out there are 7 half dimes, 1 20 cent piece, 9 quarters, and 2 halves. Someday this winter, I'll have to put together a "class picture" of all 100 ladies from out there. For now, I'll look forward to #101... if I'm lucky enough to find another. The last pic is the rest of the finds.
Take care and HH, Mike.

That, to me, is absolutely amazing... 100 seated coins... I've only found one in my 27 years at this hobby...

Congrats and can't wait to see your group shot along with #101, #102, etc...

HH Robert

Congratulations Mike, what an achievement......

100 seated dimes is more than most do in a lifetime, let alone from one park. How many seated do you have altogether?

Chris

Congratulations! That is really fantastic. That is an amazing number of seated coins to find in a lifetime, let alone one spot. HH

WTG Mike.:clapping: Wish we all had a park that can give up that many seated coins let alone any amount of silver coins for that matter. Bet there are some more there waiting for you and GL & HH on your next trip back there.

Eddie

Absolutely amazing! Congratulations on reaching your fantastic milestone. Someday I hope to find my first. Thanks for the great story and pictures.

Congrats there Mike!!! I was just thinking about you the other day! I was also speaking to another detecting buddy over in Indiana and I was asking him about you. From this post I'll say your still detecting :) Good to see and congrats nice find in such a trashy area :)

Wow... 226 Seated is impressive... and, two 20-cent pieces in the mix... amazing.

I gotta tip my hat to you, Mike.

I bet you can reach 300!
