Cool windy day... showed up to my favorite park for another dance. Trying to find one more Seated Dime. A very daunting task anymore due to the destruction of a lot of productive ground during the past decade and a half of construction work and overhunting of what few areas are left with Seated potential. A small spot in the middle of a 19th century picnic area littered with a carpet of pulltabs from drinkers in the 1970's, I slowly troll through scores of pulltab hits for the umpteenth time in 25 years of hunting.
I always held a feeling that there was Seated hiding under all that crap somewhere and I aimed to prove myself right today. After 20 minutes of machinegun rapid fire tab signals I get near to the edge of the trash and suddenly get a signal I haven't heard out here in months, years for that matter... a clean, solid DEEP silver signal!!! No mistaking this one!
I dig down about 7 inches and the probe is locked on top of a solid penny signal - a sure sign of a Seated Dime!!! Unless it was a very deep wheatie, that is... but this picnic area almost never gives up anything less than 110 years old from this depth. I pop up a clump from the bottom of the hole and wave the probe over it - Bingo! I look it over and catch the glimpse of what I hoped to see - a thin white edge!
Pretty sure of what it was, I took it back to the van and left it for when I got home to open it up. That was the only remarkable target I found for the rest of the day. I finally got around to the clump in the evening after the hectic home life activities subsided and took some photos as I opened it... I'll let the pics do the talking:

This old lady is my 100th Seated Dime from Forest Park... a milestone I've been aiming at for years! Other Seated coins found out there are 7 half dimes, 1 20 cent piece, 9 quarters, and 2 halves. Someday this winter, I'll have to put together a "class picture" of all 100 ladies from out there. For now, I'll look forward to #101... if I'm lucky enough to find another. The last pic is the rest of the finds.
Take care and HH, Mike.
