Found a few today and I'll pass along a tip..

Been 105 degrees here for the past two or three days so I didn't get out. Today it was only about 100 and I needed a fix so drove to a nearby park, parked in the shade and hunted in the shade of four small trees next to the street. Didn't expect to find much and I didn't right away but I wasn't about to get out in that blistering sun so I went into my methodical, analytical mode and started searching every inch of ground under thiose trees and coins began to appear and I wound up with this little pile - a little over three bucks I think. Most of these coins have been in the ground a long spell..

Now for a tip if you don't already know. I keep forgetting to post these, then I run into a situation while hunting and remember. If you come across a big wide signal and you can't separate anything no matter which angle you attack it from - don't dismiss it as junk, a big can, rust pocket, or trash of some kind. Many times it is shallow, multiple coins at he same depth that all fall into the signal cone together and look like one big hunk of metal to the detector and read and sound as one big, wide, signal.

Center the target in pinpoint like any other target then probe ( don't dig a big hole ) until you locate the first coin. Remove that coin and if the signal still reads the same repeat the procedure until you can achieve target separation and nail the rest of the coins. Today I got a signal like that and had I dismissed it as junk I would have left a quarter, dime, nickel, and penny behind for some savvy beeper swinger to find. The other day I found four quarters in one hole that read as one big signal.over a wide area.

Great advice. I was using a CZ-5 a few years back and the overload signal went off-I left that target for a week. The next week I took my then GTA 350 and when I went over it-sure enough a huge signal-BUT the ID was above $1 icon and THAT got me to dig-8 quarters-my personal most quarters in a single hole. And since I'm from East Texas where 105 degrees is normal-here's my little tip. When I hunt I make a mental note if there are a lot of trees at the park or school or area I'm at . If the trees are on the east side-I hunt in the mornings at this site and vice versa if in the west. By note taking,I can save these areas for the appropriate times and hunt in the shade and stay pleasant. I also keep records of where the nearest water is and carry a faucet handle w/me (cheap) as most places remove them to keep people from turning them on and leaving them running. Great feeling to fill a ballcap w/water and then put it over your head!:surprised:

Yeah I know all about that heat in your neck of the woods, been in Texas many times, plus I used to live in Phoenix and Las Vegas where it gets HOT!! Trees are my favorite hunting spots. I hunted under one tree one time and found over seven bucks. Donethe hat trick a few times. :)

Nice tip about the large targets. I've come across that a few times and felt around the target with the tip of the inner coil till I could get an edge to work with.Usually had 4 or 5 coins close together in these situations. It seems that your instincts seem to kick in, in so much as there is something about the signal, that has you going back to check them.

Thanks for the reinforcement. I was out in an old farm field a few months ago and got a larege hard ironish signal with my ACE 250.and thought it was a piece of broken equipment. It gave a depth at about 6. I passed it up and continued the hunt. My hunting ESP bugged me to go back and dig. I found a silver coated brass sleigh bell about 1 inch across down about 5 inches/. The bell was bent and really no big deal. Rescanned over the hole and got another signal. Dug again and another bell. When I was done I had a hole about 1 foot wide and down 6 or so inches and came up with 11 bells. It had been attached to a leather strap that was long gone. Most of the bells were bent and some still had their metal balls in side. No big value but enough to get 1st place at club meeting. As Uncle Willy said, don't pass up the big stuff. Also, rescan the holes after a find......Get Dirty......Dirty Don.....

If I needed to do that it woud be to hot to hunt. There's your sign.:detecting::hot:

A nice surprise coin spill that you found..A good tip also !

I use the 250 mostly because it's light and easy to handle plus it gets the job done. I need to get the rest of my Garretts out and use them before they rot. :)
