Cool metal detecting find of the day... a Holton Farkas French Horn Mouthpiece! In a park buried under 3 inches of soil.

The second coolest was found after my Delta gave me a 50cent + reading. It was 5 dimes (clad) taped together with electrical tape. I was hoping for silver while I was unwrapping them chuckling at how the Delta read 50 cents and it was actually 5 dimes buried 2 inches deep (I'm impressed how well the Delta can add).

Oh, and I did manage to find silver... a no date Merc at 5 inches:smoke:

Nice addition to your collection

Actually, Ken, I promised it to an old high school friend who's played french horn since he was a kid. His original french horn teacher was best friends with the Farkas fella (of Holton - Farkas) who designed this particular mouthpiece.

That's pretty cool. My brother played the French horn in high school some 30 years ago. It is definitely different!

Just getting out detecting makes it a good day, and finding stuff is the icing on the cake.

Then there's the Tek. Delta. There are times when having a more functional (adjustable) model, such as Ground Balance adjustment or audio Tone ID selection, can be a definite benefit, but so many times we can achieve virtually equal success with a good quality lower-end detector. If the detector is calibrated to work well and has the guts to get the job done, that's all we often need.

Working with individuals or small groups, it is relatively easy to let them relate their impressions when they put down their heavier, more complex model and swing a Delta for a little bit. Just keep on searching and soon you'll luck upon one of those real silver half-dollars and not just a teaser find. :detecting:

That's a cool find! I played the french horn and trumpet in high school band, and then played the french horn in an orchestra for a couple of years after high school...ah that was in a different life.
