Steve has the best idea.
Sometimes a pocket knife to rusty to open can be put in some vinegar and left a day and the rust will be gone (or loose enough to clean). Just don't forget it and leave it there three or four weeks or the knife will be gone! Hmmmm you would think I might have done that wouldn't you. Bill In Texas
