Found this antique "Lady Esther " rouge case ( circa 1930's) at yesterday's detecting adventure
It was about 8 " deep in the mud near the shore line.
I was happy to find this item because it reminded me of the ones my mother kept on her bureau in the '40's....nostalgic
Of course out of curiosity, I opened the tin right there at the shore line to see if there was any rouge in it..and yup...there was ..but it was not red ..it was black as the Ace of Spades.. I was suprised that the entire cake was intact...but then again it was tighly packed in that little case.
QUESTION FOR ANYONE WHO WORKS WITH PAINTS: DOES RED COLORING HAVE A BLACK PIGMENT IN IT..OR IS IT THE OTHER WAY AROUND? Any help on this would be appreciated.
There was no mirror inside the upper case as in the ones made in the '40's ( the company improved their product)
On the back is inscribed a message to the lady that she could not expect excellent results unless she followed instructions in a pamphlet /manual published by Lady Esther ( rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrip off right there!)
I think the metal is brass.
Here's some pics of the item cleaned and shined ..it was a muddy mess when I first recovered.
Thanks for looking
