Hello all,
I found this button when i was metal detecting a couple months back with my MXT Pro, I am unsure of it's age but i am pretty sure it is very old...but i wanted more opinions from you all. At first i thought it was a shotgun shell top...but it most definitely isn't..i am pretty sure it is a button. I think it may be Revolutionary era possibly. The reasons i say this is because of how thin the button is and also the loop that would have been on it, but unfortunately broke off but you can tell it would have had the classic loop you see on old buttons. The main reason i think this is possibly rev era or close to it is because of the style of the text on the button and also that the text is on the back of the button instead of the front. There is no text or any kind of design on the front from what i can tell, unfortunately it is pretty badly corroded from being in the ground for so long and i can only read a couple letters. There is an outer ring where there is writing and and there is also an inner ring with what seems to be writing and possibly stars...or maybe a date...i can't tell. I am so bummed that it turned out to be corroded because i will never know what it truly says or what it is unless one of you found one like mine in better condition or know of somewhere i can find it. It is very thin, the thinnest button i have ever seen. It isn't even an inch long.
The words i can read that aren't corroded on the button starting from the bottom left corner going to the right is (I think) : ANCE COLOU??IT
Here are some pictures below....just copy and paste in another browser. If anyone has any opinions or any leads as to what this is and when it's from...please let me know. This could be my greatest find...and i would love to know if i can officially call it that. I appreciate all of your opinions.
