Found first cache...

Well, I done found my first cache of coins. :)
And it was about 4 feet in front of the front
door. I had found the two quarters earlier, so
decided to go out and give it another quick run in
the same appx area. Well, I got a pretty good hit
that looked like a quarter. Well, I dug, and first
found mainly a root from the big tree a few inches
away. But I dug my fingers down and dug out a few
pennies stuck together. Hummmm. I gotta a bunch
of "stickers"...Well, I dug some more, and more
came out..And more, and even more. A total of 54
US cents, and 2 canada cents, and some other hexagon
"three pence" coin from 1942.
Well, when I took them in to wash the dirt off,
I noticed all seemed to be old wheat cents.
Out of the 54 US cents, only one was a linc, and it
was a 66. Anyway, these were obviously from a collection,
and might have been from collections I had years ago
and lost track of. Now, how they got buried, I have
no idea..But I guess someone got the idea to hide them
or sumtin.. They range from maybe 1909 to the 50's,
as far as the wheats.
Anyway, after one week of owning the 250, and maybe
8 hours? of leasurely looking I have already found 133
pennies, 3 quarters, one nickel, one dime, the 3 canadas,
and three matchbox cars, which reminds me, about a foot
way from those pennies, I found yes, my 2nd fully intact
matchbox car. "The first of the three was only pieces".
This one a 60's lookin ford corsair, which I think
was an UK ford..
Most of the other 79 pennies were outa separate holes..
Not too bad for a "toy". :/ And I haven't even left the
house yet, and still have plenty more to look around here..
I'm guessing the "cache" of cents was hidden in the late
60's, or early 70's.. They have been in the ground a
while.. Kinda of a shame they got corroded up, being most
are collectable. MK

Fantastic, MK:thumbup:

My first day with my new 250 was today; nothing like what you did but man, can that Ace find stuff and go deep, too. Was getting hits at 6" & didn't even have the Sens. cranked up all the way.

Not sure if they were mine or not...But the
three pence and two 60's canadian cents do seem
vaguely familiar for some reason. I did collect
quite a few wheat cents back years ago, but forgot
what happened to them all. Maybe this is a few
of them. Was kinda fun anyway knowing they were
probably stashed vs lost. No box though...They were
all just in the ground maybe 3-4 inches next
to the root. I guess they could have been lost,
but seems they would have been noticed. They were
all tightly in one group. Not scattered.

Who might have buried them? Were you young enough at that time or do you have kids who might have. Kids are good at burying stuff and planning on digging it up when they get older.

Probably one of my brothers. My parents originally
bought this house in 69, when we moved here from
Kansas, and we lived here when I was in jr and sr
high school. So I suspect one of my brothers probably
stashed them away. They might have even been their
coins. Been so long, I fergot what I had...
I don't think I did it, cuz I would have put them
in some kind of box to keep them dry. I was just
starting the 7th grade in 69, and I was the oldest.
I turned 49 last Oct... Dang..Time flies...I'll be
an official semi old fart next year at 50... :/
Kinda depressing, but what can ya do...

Yea, I usually run it about 1/2 way at first, and
then adjust it up if it doesn't start chattering.
I have had a few times when I was trying to ID a deep
target that I cranked it all the way up, but most the
time, it gets too squirrely. I'm not complaining tho,
as I'm glad they gave it the capability to crank it
that close to the edge. You can use it with the small
coils. I do adjust it as I hunt, as sometimes shallow
targets ID and pinpoint better with a lower sensitivity
it seems. If I'm trying to pinpoint something with other
targets around, dropping the sensitivity down low can
really help. Otherwise, the "other" unwanted target can
take over if it's big and close.
But once I start walking and scanning again,
I'll start to crank it back up. One notch past 1/2 way
is probably the spot I sit most of the time. At that setting,
it's still quiet, but close nuff to the edge as to make
me feel like I'm getting most my usable depth.

When you turn 50, you can join a bunch of the rest of us as an official "Geezer". That's when I bought my first-ever detector, as a "Geezer Gift" to myself. I figured if I was going to be a geezer, I needed a geezer hobby. Found out I would have had more time to have fun had I started earlier. Great going on the wheat cache!!

...finding your own stash after years! We are all so intersted in finding SOMEONE ELSES cache that we never consider we might find one of our own.

Thanks God for this "geezer hobby" - I wish Id've started years ago, too.
