dont know if this is a joke but when i found it an opened it up most of it fell apart you can hardly touch it without it crumbling it is a brown coarse type paper an it has been laying flat which also caused most of it to desintagrate. i wonder if its real was at the bottom of a pit full of bottles an the cork was rotted so im sure this is the cause of rottening... bottle also shattered into pieces so idk. does anyone know how to tell if its real or not . i think copy from early 1900's an someone thought that would be funny, either way it was cool to me only reason my detector went off was cause of a desintagrated wagon axle lol. about 2 feet down an it said iron an clad/silver which was not just old metal so rusted it was like dust .

Try and preserve that ..Use some clear sticky plastic type paper. Just try laying it out and then lay clear sticky paper over it.
After one side done, flip it over, and do the other side.....

I found some old Military service papers and did that. If not it will continue to crumble away....... I donated mine to historical Society. They were happy to get them even in partial condition of the documents..

Looks real enough. Still very cool even if it's just a reproduction. Thats a wall-hanger no doubt !!

I think the bottles are old im no real expert just started doing this metal detecting thing with my 3 yr old but anywhere from hand blown to clay to milk glass lid mason jars blue's an greens but the jar i found was real thin an was spider cracked everywhere when i brought it up no lid just a rotted cork an it was amber colored had like stars or something on it, i was just excited i thought i done found me a treasure map lol.

There was just an example of a Jesse James poster on Pawn Stars program. It was expertised to be a fake.

The original poster was very large, with big writing. Never the less you can reasearch the entire question right
here on the internet if you take a mind to.

I would probably wet my depends if I pulled a glass bottle out of the ground with a Jesse James poster in it.

Nice find.

could very well be a fake i seem to keep sniffing it for some reason it smells so sweet like honey an walnut idk maybe im loosing it but i started smelling it from where i was sitting an i started sniffing it an it almost feels like there was a wax on it maybe idk .iam no expert an i wouldnt know who to take it to around her this is such a lil po dunk town nearest city is 1hr away.

also forgot to mention that the actual size of the poster would have been 11 wide maybe 11 1/2 an 17 to 17 1/4 long if it were whole .maybe that helps someone help me im itching to know .

Regardless, it is a wonderful find. I'm with Elton - preserve the paper. - Jim

Congratulation on your Find. I bet Jessie James was drinking that Whiskey and had torn the Poster off of a wall and could not believe someone would pay $ 500.00 to find him. So he put the Poster in the Bottle when the Wiskey was gone. Just my thoughts-goldnugget-Charlotte,North Carolina-We are still looking for Daniel Boone

idk i wish though, that would be awesome. oldest thing i found is a wheat penny that i think says 1903. the property we bought had an old house on it that the people before us bulldoozed over (shame) but i find all of these goodies were the house use to be . just to give some background . it is covered with ancient oak trees an i have only covered an acre so far got 49 more lol i will be busy .

Thats awesome!!! real big jesse james fan here down under, read books, watched shows, named my kid after him lol

I would do a google search for the posters from that era and see but in the condition corked bottles sounds dead on. I would check with some local picture frame shops who use conservation class and historical paper safe backing and frame that bad boy that is way cool. Congrats may want to grab any of the old intact bottles blue and brown bottles can have some pretty good value. Awesome on the 1903 indian head or early wheat if it is 1909 or later.
HH

I personally would do the sticky clear sheets unless you find it to be fake. If real, that will kill any remaining value. Cool though, for sure. Shame there wasn't a gold $20 in there with it.

Nice poster!! I would do the sticky sheets even if it was a fake. To bad that they did not have the reward money in there with the poster.................... all 20 dollar gold coins.

The real treasure might be the old bottle pit you uncovered. Have dug and collected bottles for the past 34yrs. If you mentioned hand blown bottles, those usually pre-date 1865 or so. The partial poster you found could be real. I would carefully unearth as many bottles as you can. You may be into the top of the old outhouse pit. Some pits go down as far as 20+ feet. Whatever you decide to do, good luck, have fun, and be careful . Hope the wanted poster turns out to be the real thing !! Ron

If it is 11 by 14 it is a current reproduction. The same poster is on ebay for 3.99

Hi , first of all i'm not doubting your find but just want some clarification. Was this found in a bottle or jar. Most jars are smaller and took lids. Like the type that screw on. Most bottles used corks or caps whether they be rubber or metallic or even glass and are usually taller than your typical jar. So the poster [because of the length side to side] would have to be in a taller ''bottle'' and probably not a ''jar .Maybe i'm being too technical here but like I said I'm just trying to clarify. Wish you would have taken some more pictures of it in the jar/bottle or even pics of the area. But even if it is a repro it seems to be pretty old [according to the setting you describe] To be that deep it would have to be in the ground some time. Unless.........it is all staged. well I hope it is real after all this and hope it brings some CASH your way. Keep us posted on this. Pretty exciting stuff

I call it a jar ,was thin an it had a small neck an a thumb handle at top pretty good size had a partial bump were the cork would go of glass no seems the handle looked like it was welded but def not welded of course. im guess timating the size of the poster due to it being partial it looks like it was bigger on edges but iam not real sure the paper doesnt seem to be parchment though its really thick an very brown an almost has a texture of a brown paper bad to me , the ink does not have dots an there is some fading an thicker lines around the wanted part. i cannot find anyone around here that can tell me anything of some use i can only describe the area of which i found this at so here goes huge old old oak in center 3 palm trees of very good size around the oak like a circle older oak with a 1900's hand pump near by why anyone would put there out house next to there drinking water is beyond me . There is another tree that is rather odd looking it is a triple oak base grown all together. the other areas turned up mason jars with milk glass lids only a few inches deep. the hole i dug was quite bigger than the last one i dug.im 5' 2 an i was standing in it pulling out bottles an i could see the rim right above my head lol . i kept alot of old bottles, there were also pieces of very old plates nothing whole. in the hole was an old wagon axle/an a saw of some sort pretty far gone though.oh an there were a lot of square nails in one bottle , the glass some had what looked like black ash in them like something decentagrated in there. blue bottles of pretty good size i can take a few pics of were i got this stuff. i can say that when i dig anywhere around that area the soil is very easy to dig not compacted at all. an that is all i have for now.
