Found my 4,000 quarter with my xterra 30/time 4 new machine???

Hello to all..thanks for any advice..My girlfriend got me a x30 for xmas in 06,broke my ankle months before and needed the exercise,so i gave it a shot.I do not have any other detectors so my experience is the x30,and in the past 5 years it's done me well. But about that 4000 quarters, only 9 have been silver,I've dug up 65,66,etc at several inches and wonder if i need to get down few more inches? The x30 is a real silver finder, 52 silver rings,1 Morgan,13 dimes(2mercury)..5 chains...not as much gold ,but what i have found (5 rings,2chains,and a bracelet)was rewarding.I live in St.Pete,Fla and like hunting parks,churches,schools,etc..in the winter time...,but would also hunt the beach in the summer,I like the sovereign, but i also like the display to look at and don't know if i would be as sure with tones only...maybe the705????any advice.

Wouldn't feel comfortable offering any advice...but I can say you have certainly earned the right to buy a new one! I'm still trying to 'pay-off' my first one (a 305) and still owe myself for my second one (a 505) but I'm pretty sure my next one will be a 705 or an E-Trac.

Congrats on hitting that 4000 quarter mark. That is a remarkable accomplishment. Any of the "new versions" of X-TERRA are capable of allowing the user to properly ground balance. So that should alone allow you more depth of detection in comparison to your X-30. And naturally, the more "refined" the adjustments, the better you can adapt your detector to a particular site. As such, the 705 offers more "refined" adjustments than the other models. But just curious......since you like having TID and you mentioned you like the Sovereign with the , why wouldn't you consider putting the meter on a Sovereign? The X-TERRA you have and a Sovereign with the digital meter should make a killer combination for the type of hunting you describe. JMHO HH Randy

Hi Bob! Congrats on the 4000 quarter and other finds with the good old X30! I had and X30 also and upgraded to the 705 last year because of the display and familiarity of the machine and have never looked back since! I do still have my X30 and will never part with it due to the fact that it is a very good machine and i found lots of silver with it! It will be a great back up machine if my 705 should need repairs or any other reason! Happy Hunting,,Emmett

Congradulations on the milestone.... 4000 quarters in that amount of time is pretty amazing!!
Those silver quarters are elusive as they are the targets that probably first were recovered in the early years of detecting due to their size.
I too have found many quarters in my time afield, but not many have been silver.
The ones I have found were pretty early dates including a 1916 barber quarter and a (no date) standing liberty quarter.
These two coins were only about 4 or 5 inches deep.
I think you would have found silver quarters if they were there with your present machine.
One thing for sure... you definately have found enough to pay for another machine and it is fun having an extra machine or two to use.
I bought a Sovereign GT a couple of years ago and although it is heavy and you have to hunt slow with it, this machine has really impressed me with the amount of nice finds I have made in heavily hunts sites.
The meters are no longer available from the factory, but you can find them from time to time used on the classifieds.
I haven't used the X-Terra 705, but have an X-Terra 50 and this little detector has found me many coins and artifacts.
These are very versitile detectors especially with the selection of coils available for them.
The Sovereign is a very good beach detector and performs flawlessly.
I wouldn't worry too much about getting more depth as some of the earliest coins I have found were not as deep as some of the clad coins I have recovered.
However some detectors (like the X-Terra 705) has some features that your X-Terra 30 doesn't have that can enhance its abilites to find deeper targets and targets masked by iron and other trash.
Hope this helps,
Felix

thanks for your info, still trying to make up my mind on a new detector, went out today with the x30 and got a 53 quarter out of 6$ in change found, and it was several inches down.

thanks for your reply and info.I did not know the sovereign had a meter from the pics I've seen of them, but do now thanks to this forum.been reading alot of old posts to get more informed.

Hi Bob

with the sovereign, a meter is an added extra
so on top of the cost of a Sov. add about another $150 - $200 ( I am talking new prices here)

Sovereigns are mighty fine machines but also heavier and very different set up and controls to an Xterra
...I would suggest that you borrow one or at least have a swing of one for half an hour before you make up your mind
That goes with any new machine
Your local dealer or club should be able to help with this if you know of no-one to ask
good luck
