I have hunted this park in my hometown since I was in high school. I'm now 44 and this is the FIRST silver coin I have ever gotten out of there! I have found two high $$ key date indian heads there over the years...but no silver until yesterday. I always take friends and family there to hunt. Yesterday I took my fiance and her son there as we were trying out her new classic ID with Mr. Bill mods we picked up from one of the forums. This Barber was right on the brink of detection ID capabilities at this ground and was at least 8" +....probably 9". It was at least an inch or two more over the lip on my Lesche digger which I believe is 7".
I got good tones on my SE running in conduct with the gain high and sensitivity at auto 26. The sound would be good..then cut out...good ...then cut out as I circled the hole...and the cursor bounced from top right to middle top.
This is a tell tale sign of possible silver at the brink of being undetectable or ID'ed as iron. We've all read the posts on the forums and all know to dig "iffy" signals when in doubt. Yes it's a nail many times...and maybe 90% of the time...but this one time out of 10 it was this gorgeous 1892 Barber that looks like somebody got it from the bank in 1892...then dropped it 5 minutes later...where it sat for the next 115 years until I popped it out of the ground. I've never found a barber that you could see every line of every detail as usually they are worn so thin..but not this one. All I did was run warm water over it and it looks like this!
No it's not a key date or a super valuable find..but the feeling I had and look on my face when I plucked it from the soil and saw what it was and the condition it was is in...is something I will never forget.
