Went back to the a yard where I found all 7 silver coins one last time. Was up by an old tree and dug down two inches and found a small button. Got home and cleaned it off and it is an eagle with a anchor under it surrounded by stars. Looked it up online and found a match and it is a civil war button. Live in Indiana and not expecting hat.Can see the Ohio river from the hunting site. It is right over the hill. Also found a Hickok buckle with 1939 on the front. No idea what it is for.

Congrats on the sweet save
The Ohio river area had a lot of activity during the CW. Troop movements, transports ect. Did Gen Morgan and his raiders go through your area of Indian? They crossed the Ohio river into southern Indian. Then came up through southern Ohio.

C.S. General John Hunt Morgan was the only person that did go through that area in a raid during the civil war.....If that could be something from morgans raid, i would say JACKPOT.

Our town settled in 1812 had riverboats stop at our river landing daily. One of our businestsman was named the "hay king" He ran the steam wheeler UP Schenck f rom my town to New Orleans. After the war he bought an iro nclad the argosy and refitted it. Where I found the button was right across from a coal depot thawn t was right on the river. I bet the union boats refilled up with coal as they went by. 10 miles upstream was the worst riverboat accident in 1867 after the civil war. Two steam wheelers hit head on and one was carrying troops headed home. Here is the link for those who like history:
