Found some old employee tags

I found these at my dad's place. Both were in the same hole. At first I noticed that they were larger than a quarter but smaller than a half and got excited thinking they might be large cents. No such luck but neat finds just the same. FYI...The Bethlehem Steel Co. in Bethlehem, PA has been closed for quite a while and is about to re-open as a casino.

Very kool BTH I l think finding stuff like that is awesome.

I had trouble cleaning these tags so I went online and found a recipe. I saute'd them in equal parts of ketchup, vinegar and salt. Worked pretty slick.

Nice tags and a good find.

turn one in get a tool, return the tool get the token back. Sort of a check to keep tools from wandering off. Could be?? Cool find though!

I like cheese on mine.

It was sad day when Bethlehem Steel went under. It was one of the first common stocks I ever bought. It was good to me briefly when the US steel industry had a brief resugence in the 80s.

I am a Moravian. btw, and used to travel to Bethlehem a few times a year. I hope the casino doesn't totally ruin the place. I like casinos fine but wouldn't want one in my town.

Great find. Are both from the shipbuilding side?

I'm not sure what you mean by that. Be more specific. As for the casino, I'm happy to say that it's not in my town. It's supposed to create 500 jobs and no one is going to complain about that but I'm sure that, in the long run, it will create much more than jobs. We'll just have to wait and see. I never cared much for cities, large or small. I'm perfectly content to be out in the sticks where I belong.

One of those tags read shipbuilding. The company manufactered steel and also built a lot of ships especially during WW2. They had shipyards all over the place.

Really great finds.

Chris

My dad hauled alot of steel out of that place ( long after WW2 ) so they could have been his but It's really hard to say. I'm still not exactly sure what the purpose of those tags were. I've done some research but haven't found anything conclusive yet. I need to show them to some old-timers that worked there.
