Might I suggest to the OP; it would be more helpful to have the picture size SMALLER. It would be very helpful from a viewing perspective . Just a suggestion not a criticism.
 
Looks like one of the big nails (spikes) they used on the end joints on log cabins. I found one semi similar and thats what an oldtime carpenter told me.
