Found Two Classic Bust Large Cents Today About 5 Minutes Apart! :hot:

My new hunting buddy, capri_auto, was otherwise engaged today, my wife was away too for the day. I decided to try a new site I had my eye on this afternoon. Dug a wheat, then moved to rear or property which I think was farmland at one point. I was just doing a bit of reconnaisance to see if this site had any potential. The ground was dry had and rocky - weird soil if it was a farm.

I finally get a sweet hit in the silver quarter range......dig about 4 inches down......and :yikes: out pops a very encrusted dirty big copper disc! Can it be true?!?! Three large cents in a week? Next hit was interesting, but now I know this site is OLD, I get this weird two headed square nail (will clean and show later). About two feet away I get another quarter signal......and dig about 2 inches....and HOLY SH*T another big dirty copper disc! Was I dreaming? Had visions of coming home with a pocket full of LSs! Dug some more modern trash items deeper than the LSs and could not get another good signal. Back up top dug another wheat. When I came come I rinsed the coppers uner water with a bit of soap - the soil has not been kind and these are heavily encrusted, but I can clearly see the silouette of a Classic Bust!! (1808 - 1814) making these my oldest LCs! I can clearly see the line under "ONE CENT" and make out some detail, but I'm afraid to toast them. What would you do to try and restore some detail???

I have been experimenting with boiling hydrogen peroxide, but I'm afraid to do anything to these beauties that will make them worse.

So 4 LC's in one week (not hunting cellar holes) - 2 in one day....both firsts for me I'll probably never beat.

Here are the uncleaned pics:

That's awesome, Erik!

You are really popping those oldies out of the ground!! :please:

I wish I lived in an area where I could dig up early 19th century coinage. What a rush!!

Thanks for sharing!

Wow Eric you are smoking lately! You need to start videoing this stuff so we can all get in on the action.

an certainly not two of them 5 feet apart. My first two were spaced by about 10 years.....4 in a week is just plain crazy!

after just one week you have surpassed my 35 year total for large cents:smoke:

Actually in just 7 days time you have four...and in my 35 years of hunting I have ONE:biggrin:

Congrats on all the finds. I ain't got time to respond to them all because I put 7 hours on the Harley today and my rump is a little sore...to say the least.:bouncy:

Gonna' take a quick shower and crawl into bed...hoping my tempur-pedic mattress takes a little pain outta' my buttocks...'cause this computer chair just ain't cuttin' it.:crylol:

Nice finds again. Four largies in a lifetime would make me happy...but I will probably be stuck at just one.:)
