Four Silver Rings and Tons of Clad

I hunted Thursday and meant to post but after I put away the coins I realized I hadn't photographed them. I got the tiny sterling ring that day. A baby ring for sure. Size 2. 105 coins that day.

Today I hit two sites for 3 hours each. Both sites I had found last summer when it was too dry to detect them properly. Both are very, very rocky. Site one. 127 coins, 22 not pictured. The silver ring with the big blue stone. Four wheats. A bunch of other relics. Here's a photo:

Site two was 112 coins. Four more wheats. Boyscout neckerchief thingy. Lock. Two 925 rings. Here's a photo:

Here are the rings. Three of them anyway.

This ring is special to me. I had just heard the song Imagine on the radio. Fifteen minutes earlier, tops. I just love that song! As I began to hunt, I found myself thinking about a new friend who hopped into my life. The signal was a good one and I thought was going to be a silver coin. When I saw it was a ring, and then I saw the word Imagine, I knew the ring was hers. I'd call it serendipity. I hope she doesn't get angry with me for posting this. :cheekkiss: Could one of you guys who knows me a little tell her how infrequently I part with my metal detecting swag? (How much trouble am I in this time, S?)

I'd call it three hunts with over 100 coins and at least one silver ring. 2010 is beginning to heat up, I think!

Chris

Same old paper towel.

Lots of great items in the rings and clad !
Very good hunts !

Why would I be angry with you, Chris? It is a lovely sentiment that you would give me that ring. It is a beautiful ring. I like the design on it too, and I love the elegant simplicity of it. I share your thoughts too that there is a mystical connection between finding that ring and the Imagine song. As it happens, that is one of my most favorite songs, too. Somehow the music fits that ring. I see there is other engraving on it, after the word Imagine...what is it? I am merely curious.

Can you tell what the ring size is? It would transcend mystical if the size is the same as mine. Of course, rings can be re-sized. ;)

I like the one with the big blue stone too. Very pretty. Do you have any idea what sort of stone it is? I am so happy for you that you had such a good haul yesterday, Chris! :clapping:

Clad. Modern US coins. Mostly copper. Some nickel.

Chris

Aaahhh, I see! Thank you for explaining, Roscue. I will not irritate you hobbyists by asking more foolish questions, like why is it easier to detect when soil is moist than when dry? I will save that one for next time I speak to Chris.

I didn't think you'd be mad, really. I was protecting myself in case you felt it odd that your new friend was giving you jewelry. You know how I am sometimes! I have a ring mandrel in my detecting kit. The size is 6 3/4. Thats US size. I'll bet a million bucks that's your size. My day has been pretty perfect up til now. The full inscription is "Imagine, believe, receive." It's hallmarked 925 LA. I entered it in my book as (Your Name's) Imagine Ring. I'm wearing it on my pinkie. Do you mind? Should I take it off?

"Imagine" is John's best outside The Beatles, I think. He wrote another "Watching the Wheels" another favorite of mine with almost the exact same chord progression. Close anyway.

That big blue stone is junk. The "star" isn't real. It might be glass or resin. The band is cut too. It could be old though.

Here's a shameless photo:

I love the photo of the book page! Our mutually favorite short story. Thank you for the "shout out" to me, Chris. I cannot think of a nicer way to be remembered...our old friend, Mr. Tolstoi. :)

Thank you also for a close up look at those treasure-hunting, ukelele strumming hands of yours.;) Hey, the ring is gorgeous on you...it is meant for you, Chris. You really should keep it! Happy Easter all you treasure seekers!

p.s./Do you have shoes to go with the ring? ;)

That is an old college text of mine. 100 short stories. I still reread many of them from time to time. I'm very fond of the genre. Look at my notes! It was a shout out to someone who gets me. Sometimes that's enough. Besides, it sure beats a ratty old paper towel.

Thanks for looking dahut. I thought you sold all your Garretts.

Chris

You're so funny! Next photo of that ring better be on your finger. You can have new shoes too if you want! ;)

Chris

Perhaps I will get sneakers with silver laces to wear with the ring. I think you're right too about the size. I believe it will fit. How 'bout that? :geek:

I am slowly swinging around to the Fisher/Teknetics line these days. I will be selling the last of my Whites this week, in fact, a decent XLT with four coils.
My last Tesoro, a Golden uMax, is probably destined for the auction block as well - although that one is damned hard to let go of. With the advent today of fully featured, lightweight detectors, the Tesoro doesnt hold the same position it once did.

But the GTP 1350 seems to be a perennial favorite of mine. I once had a Garrett CXII and made some great finds with it. In fact it was my first exposure to Garrett detectors. But it belonged to a friend and I had to give it back.
I tried the ACE 250, recently, too. However, unlike most people, I didn't think so much of it - certainly not when compared to the other Garretts I had known.
Mick in Dubbo now has it. So that was that.

Some years ago, inspired by the CXII, I got a Garrett GTAx 1000. I liked its depth and especially its ability to find good targets in trash. But I had been weaned on Fishers and Tesoro's and so I found it a quirky thing and I sold it. But I kept remembering that many of my best finds were made with that Garrett and the old CXII. So, I persisted and eventually got a GTP 1350.

I was impressed with its sensitivity and used it for awhile. I let it go in time to pay for some other models I wanted to try.
But it kept nagging at me - no sooner did I get rid of it, I got to regretting it and and eventually got another just after Xmas, 2009.

So while the GTP 1350 is the only Garrett I currently own, it is one that is destined to stay. In my constant testing of mid range detectors, its ease of use, power and features are hard to beat for the money. In fact, only a couple others come to mind as its equals and they are relative newcomers on the block.
