Frequency of Goldquest vs Infinium

I just found info on the Infinium LS and started to compare it to the Goldquest ss. The Infinium LS frequency is 730 pps and the Goldquest has a frequency of 10,000-2,000pps. What is the difference between these numbers. I think I have narrowed my choice between these two machines but I still want to learn more. Thanks for you help.

Pulse frequencies can vary a lot between different makes of PI's. The actual pulse rate is of secondary importance compared to other characteristics of the detector.
Traditionally, PI's pulsed a high current through the coil for a 100uS or so at a repetition rate of a 1000 or less pulses per second. The Beachscan/Goldquest detectors broke away from this traditional approach and pulses a much smaller current for a shorter period of time, at a much higher rate. The reasoning being, that it is much easier to switch off a small current quickly, than a big one. This makes it easier to design a detector with good sensitivity to tiny targets.
The loss in signal resulting from the smaller TX pulse is largely regained by having many more pulses per second. This is born out by the ranges achieved by the Goldquest, which are not far removed from those of its "higher" powered brothers.
Eric.

Thank you Mr. Foster, goldquest seems to be the best of the lot for me.
