Friends of mine looking to get into the hobby in Wales

My mate Glenn is heading back to his home in Wales after a short stay in his native Bermuda. While he was here he got the detecting bug and I have suggested that he start out with the ACE250 until he gets his feet wet.
I get excellent results in the dry and wet sand as well as the rare dirt fishing trip when I swing the little Yeller Feller but that is here and he is hunting there.

So my question is - Will the ACE250 do a 'reasonable' job on the beaches and in the fields of Wales. Glenn lives near a village called Phyllwylly (or something like that).

Thanks for any help.

I'll see if I can find a link where he has to get a Permit in Wales along with some information. The Permit is free.--goldnugget-Charlotte,N.C.

hi i live about 70 miles from pwllheli in north wales if that is where you mean, even the english can,t pronounce welsh properly so you are forgiven.[no malice intended]i get up there every weekend in the summer ,but nowadays there are a lot of people scouring the popular beaches,so the stuff does,nt stay lost for long.never used a garrett machine so don,t know how good it will be ,but every machine i have used works well there, hope this helps..alun

the ace 250 will only be good for the dry, once on the wet you need to drop the sensitivity that low to stop falsing that is loses almost all its depth

The ACE250 is not in the same league as my Excal, CZ-21 or my Whites DF but for a starter machine I find it to be pretty amazing, definitely much better than anything in it's price range. Glenn has never detected before so for easy of operation and a tight budget the ACE250 is a good idea. You may not realize this but Bermudians tend to be rather tightfisted when it comes to cash.:poke:

I thought the sand there was great!! I got insane depth while I hunted there..could crank up the sensitivity... way up!! That day we hunted in the little cove in St. Georges..I was getting tired digging deeeeep nickel's! You got some very low mineralization in your pink sand! Hey how did you make out with that ring you got that day? the big one with lots of ICE?

The ring was 10k but the ice was the biggest CZ, nitro-bomb I have ever found. Once in a while I will take the ACE250 out for a spin at the beach, it is a fun little machine and works well in trashy areas, just don't tilt the coil above horizontal or the water in the shaft runs down into the housing - Pffft! bye bye ACE250.
I used the yeller feller to locate the wedding set I returned to a young bride this summer, it worked like a charm on a very trashy beach - I located them about 10" down in the wet/dry sand boundary.

It really did look like a motherlode find, didn't it. Initially I was guessing around $10,000.00 but once it was clear that they were CZ's, I had to revise that figure Way, Way Down.:sadwalk:

It sure was fun hunting with you though, Mate.:super:

The Ace will be fine on our local beaches, but a pulse induction machine is the way to go.

Tell your friend to have a look at www.Detectingwales.com for information on detecting beach or inland in Wales.

Diolch yn fawr
