Eric,
I am going to play with the front end schematic you posted a while back and was wondering if this arrangement is capable of the 15us that seems to be the target we are shooting for? Thanks for all the help you have given me.
Thanks,
Fred
PS - What would be a good Log amp to try experiments with for a front end? If you had something in mind, I will order some and give it a try.

Hi Fred,
Yes, the schematic I posted will easily run in a circuit that samples at 15us. The maximum coil inductance you can use to achieve this is 300uH.
As far as log amps go, I am trying an AD8307. It is a new type of log amp which operates from DC to 500MHz. We don't need all that bandwidth but reading the article on it in the April 2000 Electronics World, it looks as though it would be suitable.
Eric.
