full tones sounds?

calabash digger

Ive hunted 3 days with full tones the first two I felt like I did good but yesterday when I switched sites I got whipped. The first site has alot of shallow modern trash so I was just picking the deep squeaky signals out of it found a chinese coin and 2 wheaties and a few other old pieces of non ferrous. The second site is different it doesnt have modern trash but it has a ton of deep iron which kept fooling me into digging , I coudnt for the life of me tell the difference in the deep iron and a good non ferrous target. I put a coin on the ground with a piece of iron next two it and checked the sounds. It would hit it good one way and be masked the other, but I did notice it changed the iron sound when they were close. Do you dig the funny sounding iron tones just in case there is a non ferrous mixed in with it and changing the sound ever so slightly, one of the guys on the other post was telling me about different sounds the good ones and one that was like static that you dig.any imput please would greatly help.

What audio response setting did you use ?

3 but I switched to 4 tonight and switched my tones to four. I was reading andys book and it said set up the deus like you old faithful machine and learn it that way think thats how im gonna do it .coming from a at pro I think 4 might be a good start for me. Man I was having a hard time with it yesterday.

Alright,,
First of all,,,Deus will read read iron on top of the ground differently vs being buried and undisturbed.

Try this experiment,, get you a 2" wide roll of tape,,2 each 12 penny nails, and one nickel and clad dime.

Over clean ground,, lay the roll of tape down,, place one of the coins in the middle,,place one nail on the lip of roll of tape,, one on each side,,,,as you look down at the roll of tape,, nails should be facing in the 12 o'clock and 6 o'clock, positions orientation wise.

Take your Deus,, with 9" coil,, Deus fast program,, put silencer setting to -1 and sweep over experiment.... You should hear the coin,, Cary your coil height some while sweeping to see effects. You go up reactivity to 4 and try to.
With 11" coil,,do the same,, reactivity level 4 may be needed to get the coins. Listen to the tone transition.

Do this with each coin individually inside the roll of tape.

Now,,,when you hit iron the field,,sometimes it will tingle a bit of higher tone,,,turn 90 degrees--- lot of times you will hear hard iron fault tone,,meter reading of 04,05 likely,,definitely a blunt sounding tone. This procedure though is not absolute--- a good target good be there,,, but will suffice most times.

Now iron can sound almost like a good nonferrous target,,, but listen,, is the good tone coming in chopped or abrupt with coil movement---- likely iron,,,, if the signal comes in smoother or gradual sounding--- probably nonferrous target

Sometimes a good nonferrous signal will be caught in the middle-- not good sounding,, but not bad sounding either,,, and meter reading reads below disc setting.

And I will say,, forget the meter readings,, nonferrous targets in full tones can read 00,01,02,03,04,05,, etc. you get the picture??? Tone is the driver not the meter.

Full tones used in modern trash can be done,,, but using some notch might help get rid of some of the lower conductor junk targets.

This info if studied will help you.

Remember Deus, meter readings,, tones,, and disc all divorced--- meaning tone is the driver,,listen to it.

Keep full tones but discrim up to 1 or 2, this will save your ears. You wont loose any depth. The audio response is ok at 3or 4 in trashy sites, any more and you will miss targets, simply becasue a shallow target will mask a faint deeper one.
Try your original settings, find a target in all the trash and work backwards (change the settings) till you clean it up, it will come.

A high reactivity will loose you targets, 3 is fast enough, and dont over-power it either. A tx of 2 is plenty, dropping it to 1 has also worked for me on some sites.

As regards deep iron. Full tones, pull the coil backwards away from the target, if you get a buzzy low tone its iron.

I gave up on the deus when l 1st got mine, and went back to an explorer, you have to keep at it.

tones full
sen 90 tx 1
sil -1

rea 3
audio 3
discrim 0
notch 0
this is the settings I was running it was the deep signals that kept fooling me the little faint ones that I had dug the day before and had good success. im gonna keep on trying I dont give up and I spent all my money on this machine so im stuck with it because I sold my at pro to set this one up and I know being stuck with this one is a good thing!

there were days when i first had mine that i loved it and then the next day i wanted to throw it in the lake... try leaning it in less cluttered places at first before trying to tackle those infested sites. there are so many ways to use it in those cluttered sites that it takes a while to get it figured out. sometimes lowring tx helps. sometimes raising sens helps or lowering sens but raising reactivity ( never more than 3 tho)... play with different settings when you have a questionable signal to see if it clears up the signal or makes it more sure of being iron. go s l o w ....
