FYI Something I noticed about the New Explorer SE

Any time I ever hunted with the Explorer 2 as most hunters already know, once you disturbed the soil the target seemed to disappear. With the New SE the target remains constant and DOES NOT DISAPPEAR:super:. My hat is off to Minelab for this improvement. Enjoy them! HH, Ron@ Dixie MD Ms.

I don't seem to lose my target unless its a deeper target. The shallow ones give off a good signal even after the dirt is removed in my experience. Are you just referring to the deeper targets losing their signal?

Thanks, Bart

I'd need to see this as a control to verify that what you believe to be true about the SE is in fact a new feature. This was never mentioned on the highlight sheet as a new feature, was it? Thanks, Erik

But as I told you I thought you were right. Well I proved it today. Took the SE to a place that has some real deep stuff. I can use my small bladed shovel that I had made 4"'s wide with the 8" long blade there. It will make quick work of deep targets and you don't make a mess and no body knows you have been there. It will cut a 3 sided plug real quick. I dug most of the coins 6 to 10" deep. Each target pinpointed except the 2 barbers and all I got was the pitch change in pitch of the threshold. All the targets were in the bottom of the plug or were still in the hole. I passed the coil over the plug it either IDed or nothing. I passed the coil over the hole then it would Id. Even when I got it out of the hole and passed the coil over the target it would ID. My Expll would not either ID in the hole and some times will not Id out of the hole when the target dirt was disturbed. Especially if it were on edge and if the dirt is disturbed. On the real deep ones past the 8" mark if I had disturbed the dirt, I had to use the SE pinpoint again to get the target. Like I told you also you are going to really like that Pitch Hold when you are out Relic hunting on the real deep targets. Worked great in the iron and trash. I was running AM Iron Mask which I normally run Iron Mask 16 on my Exp ll any time I hunt. I will call you tomorrow and will tell you the little tricks I had to use on the deep ones that would not ID or pinpoint just the high Tone on the threshold. I just want to be sure about this little trick before I say anything. I would not want the Nay Sayers to jump on me  You know how thin a skin I have. :D: :D:  I had a 135 hits on my last post and not even one person had anything to say Pos or Neg about what I posted. I guess I am just not a good Poster or I don't Post enough or maybe I am just a newbe and don't know what I am doing. Maybe I just ain't one of the good old boys. :bouncy: :D: :D: . I am a little  though. Maybe I should just go back to my hunting instead of posting. Later bud, Jerry aka Tinfoil

Hi Jerry,

I guess I for one was just a little confused by your post or maybe it's late and I'm tired or maybe you really are  --

What does "Each target pinpointed except the 2 barbers and all I got was the pitch change in pitch of the threshold" mean???

I've never had trouble pinpointing at 10" with my XS - you get that broken/studdering pinpoint signal which we love to hear.

Unfortunately, I didn't find any deepies in my short initial hunt with my SE - so I'm curious about your discovery and hope to try it out this weekend if possible. You're a good ol' boy!

As you know a deep target will disappear and sometime will not even pinpoint when the ground is disturbed. I am saying I had no trouble with disappearing targets even after the dirt was disturbed in the hole or out of the hole with the SE. Hell some times with my Exp ll even with the target out of the hole I had to use my Vibra probe to find it as the target would not pinpoint or ID the target. I am saying with the SE I never had that problem today or yesterday. My Exp ll will pinpoint also but it is when you start disturbing the dirt mine goes to crap and looses the target in the hole. Thank goodness for my vibra probe. I have many hundreds of hours on my Exp ll and I am telling you that the SE is a hell of a lot better on deep targets,ID, and Pinpointing. The new Pitch Hold is one neat little add on that will really get some deep targets that won't even ID. I don't know how else to explain it. Just think of the SE as a new machine and start from there. The tones are sharper and more crisp. The ID and response is quicker and sharper. I ain't getting paid to post any of this stuff and I ain't no dealer. Just a old hunter that hunts a lot and don't post much. Maybe I did not explain it like it is so just get out there and hunt. Put some hours on the SE and see for yourself. I am beginning to think me and Ron maybe should have said nothing and let one of you regular Posters find all this stuff out. I was just trying to let you guys know a few things about the SE. I am regretting it now. So this will be it. I am a much better hunter then Poster. I am not a regular on any of the find malls forums and I never post my finds. I learned my lesson talking about my finds. So maybe I will just stay to asking Questions on machines when I need to. Later Jerry aka Tinfoil.

sometimes people just like reading more than posting, so keep posting. I should have my SE when the next shipment gets to Vegas and I will be doing a side by side compare with my Exp.II. I will be heading for Lake Charles in Nov. and maybe we can do a hunt and maybe I can get John Saldivar to come with his XT-70. It's late, so for now, Happy Trails 2U.

about the regret. I too buy most of the new detectors that come out and put quite a few hours on them quickly. I used to post a lot about whatever I'd observe, not intending to hype or cut the detector.... just info sharing to be taken for whatever it's worth. After awhile I started to recognize there was way too many/much:
1. Subjectivity around detector opinions in general for mine to matter.
2. So many different skill levels out there that a published opinion might only make sense or be potentially useful to a relative few.
3. "Fox and Grape" cases where a person for whatever the reason can't easily justify the expenditure, so they whack relentlessly on the detector.
4. Another variation of #3 is the person winds up buying the detector but regrets spending the money so they really go through the learning
experience sporting an attitude that insures failure. Failure looking like "It wasn't worth it". In other words, don't look to this person for the most in objectivity.
5. Last but not least, one of the downsides to the internet and all it's information, it's used waaaaaaaaaaayy too much as a crutch by a lot of folks to not have to go through the normal "old school" learning process of "on the job training". It's like people that will buy a video game and then look up on the internet to find all the "cheat" info. This is sorta like information "welfare" and I think most would agree that one of the biggest downsides to any free entitlement is that the longer one is "on" it the less likely that they will do what it takes on their own. What is wrong with the concept of, if you're interested and can afford what you're interested in, buy the da&n thing and learn it at your pace in your world!? Won't that be a more overall rewarding experience than going from street clothes to internet trained "black belt" in two weeks? And if you can't afford it, accept it gracefully and RELAX.
6. The manufacturers and dealers love for the early buy individuals to go out and talk all the good news to hopefully impact sales positively, but those same early buyers are the ones that usually catch all the sh*t from those mentioned above so after awhile, who wants to be the front man?. Not me. :rage: That's one of those "hard to justify" things too.
7. There's more but that's the 80% for the 20%.

So, even though I still post an occasional bit and piece, I definitely hold most of it back, sorta like you're talking here, Jerry. Even though there are a few questions above, they are rhetorical and not intended to prompt responses or debate. I'm NOT whining here, but just sharing one more thing that my "on the job training" of observing new detector releases over recent years has taught me. It just is what it is. Human nature.
