It clearly says "Gold nugget hunter" on the front page of the manual and just as been said it is very good on relics and coins.
It would have been good to see a target ID for gold on the object page, out of the eleven items listed on page 25 none of them are a gold based target.
It's easy enough to test rings and jewelry but not everyone has gold coins around the house.

Hey John----I don't care if it was designed to detect clay marbles as long as it does the GREAT job that it does in iron for relics.---Put that 5" coil on it and it's nothing short of amazing in the heaviest iron sites I've ever worked.----Gold hunting & coin hunting is just "iceing on the cake" as far as I'm concerned.----That's why I purchased 3 of them for my family--I'm that impressed (in that regard) about that little G2.------BTW, did I mention it was designed for gold???
----Tomorrow is my birthday, I'll be 72 yrs. old. (who cares)
----How's that for changeing the subject?
------If that G2 gets you to "nodding off"--just pick up that 75 LTD of yours---that'll snap you out of it!!
