G2 Field Run.........

Was out in the field today by 10am. Sunny, 40 degrees, I was ready to go. I found a nice assortment of relics, bullets, buttons, iron targets including a bayonet socket.
Let me say that the G2 is a great machine to use in iron infested sites, as you can see by the square nails in the photo. All the nails came out of holes with good targets in them. Another point, is if you really want to truly dig great relics, dig the high tone Iron signals that come in at 60 and above. The Bayonet socket was a 68 on the TID with a high tone. I had my disc set at 40 with full gain, ground phase at the site was 55 to 60 with 3 FeO bars showing. I knew if I had a good target if I had a reading that high toned at least 2 ways. Most ID's in the 70-80 range were either brass or lead. 3 ringers were 70-74 and the Eagle coat buttons were 75-80 on the ID. The small bucky balls read in the low 50's and the pistol bullets from high 50's to high 60's, as did shotgun shell butts. This camp was hunted really hard in the 70's & 80's and there are targets still there to be found. Now, I have hunted the same site with GBSE, version 29 and I have to say that the G2 and the GBSE are really close in performance with the G2 having a little more edge. The G2 having a little sharper audio. I use Killer B headphones. The deepest I found was one of the Eagle Buttons at 8 inches, I have not found anything deeper, except large iron. Yes on either machine, horseshoes and round washers give a good high tone with a little lowend grunt just before and after you go over the target. I was using the 11" biaxial coil on both machines. Over all the G2 is a pleasure to use, quiet at full throttle, light and the recovery speed if FAST. I also tested the FX-1 Sunray inline probe on it and it worked great. The G2 should be in every relic hunters arsenal........

I think most people would have a tough time discerning the difference, but it's there. I know my G2 isn't a depth monster, and didn't plan it to be, but for working good targets out of terrible trash, it is great!

Nice report, 'Thank You!'

So it seems to hit on good targets that are above 40? On the LTD those targets would hit lower...maybe in the high 20s...is it the small coil or is the iorn range on the G2? I have had the same readings and tend to set my dics at 35. But I know some guys hit bullets at high twenty's. I found the G2 to to poorly on rain wet ground but on moist ground it is back to being almost perfect. It is a great machine and I now wonder about my Omega I still bring the LTD out and hunt with both now if I have the time.

hi low boy!
in your experience with the g2,are you finding it to be a "match" for the depth of
the "omega",coil for coil,in your hunting conditions?..just curious!...thanks!

The 5DD seems not to work as well on my G2 as it does on the LTD the omega 5DD is what I am using on the G2 but the 11DD is as deep as the LTD on the G2 and deeper then the omega. The 5DD on the LTD is super deep so maybe I have a bad Omega small coil...

For the 1st hour I dug everything from the 20's up, even the low tones, just to get the "feel" of the G2. I set mine to grunt low on everything below 40. I have never found any lead or brass below the 40 setting, which in real modern trashy areas is the foil accept range for me. I will not use the small coil on the G2 as I have the GBSE set up with it.........MO
