A friend was quite curious about the Omega so I loaned him mine to work with on his hunting trip back east.
I am especially using the G2 w/5" DD coil, but right now my main use duo models are the Gamma and G2.
Now, as for a 'preference' for the Gamma over the Omega? Out in the rural areas, no. They both perform virtually the same Same Tone ID options, same Ground Grab and manual GB capability, same Discrimination range. The main differences are that I like the rod/grip system on the Omega and G2, but I found that in many of the noisier urban locations with a lot of EMI, the Omega requires a lower Sensitivity setting than does the Gamma.
Do I miss my Omega? Yes, in a way. The Gamma is honestly the same performance, but the Omega does provide more Fe3O4 info, the Ground Error reading, the Ground Phase setting during the search, Ground Grab and manual GB on-the-fly, and is comfortable. The Gamma is also comfortable, but what I miss most about the Omega is the elliptical 10" concentric coil.
Also, as I've stated recently, a lot of people looking for 2 detectors that can share search coils tend to pick between the Omega and Gamma to go with the G2 based upon their available funds.
