You know I was thinking of asking you about this very thing this evening Monte,I seem to recall some post about setting up other fisher machines with certain disc number because in the software programing it used like a single filter of something of that nature.
When it comes to a lot of the detector design up until more recently, and I mean really more recently, like past 7-10 years, I have generally preferred detectors that were all analog or mostly all analog. Some that are sort of analog and digital, but I haven't been the biggest fan of all-digital designs. There are some on the market today that are supposed to be high-tech and all the fancy digital stuff and I could care less.
I can say that because I usually prefer to use a variable Discriminate setting that lets
ME pick what I do and don't want to find. Quite a few detector shave been made that have a factory preset program which has determined what a particular target is supposed to respond as. Sometimes they even have segments that suggest the targets identity.
If the ground is moderate and there isn't a lot of masking targets (good or bad) in the area, and if the desired 'good' target is relatively shallow, generally 'flat' to the coil, and I have all the proper settings and sweep speed, then I might get an audible hit and visual Target ID that falls in the manufacturer's predetermined 'guess' of what it might be.
In the end, however, the Owner's Manual doesn't tell me what I want to find or direct me to a specific site. The instructions in the manual or on the detector don't direct me to the best settings to use or who to work the search coil. As the avid detectorist,
I make that judgement call, and since each detector is different from others models, and each site poses an assortment of different challenges, only I can be the one to pick and choose the settings that might work for me.
There are some factory-set models that do their job well, and I'll claim the lower-cost Delta to be an excellent example of one. But it/they don't do everything I like a detector to do.

I was wondering if the goldbug se /G2 had similar functions where it would be beneficial to use the disc on say 21 instead of 25.
Yes, I can easily say that either model might provide the right setting for your needs, as long as you know what the chosen Disc. setting will achieve. For example, I worked a site the other day where every nail could be rejected with a Gamma set at 17 or 18. The T2 needed a higher Disc. setting, and if I recall, it was closer to
