Best thing to do in your soil conditions is bury a target and see. Pass the coil over the target in each mode. Each mode is set up-default for different hunting situations. Which you can customize to your conditions. You can get a better idea how modes are set up by looking at the Impact owners manual chart, page 37-38, which they left out of the Kruzers manual.
