Galveston Minus Tides?

Jackalope

New member
Been noticing that the beach at Galveston appears to slope very gradually into the Gulf. Hoping to take advantage of the Feb. minus tides but wondering how much difference there might be in a say.......-.04L and a -.06L? Does a small change like this allow you to hunt further out into the bay? Steep slope;...I don't think it would make all that much difference.

Any - tide will let you hunt farther out but these tides you are talking about are such a small amount
that would not make any difference over a regular low tide. The - tides in the spring and summer
months are far greater and would be the ones to hunt if you can make them. With the beach
rebuilding going on at this time and the amount of sand that " IKE " moved There is no way to
tell ( as far as I know ) if hunting a - tide will be of any real help for a while.

Thanks for that info. Was considering the data for the Jamaica Beach area in Feb. and noticed the predictions of -0.7L during at least two low tides. Also -0.909L at Pier 21 in Feb. My situation was to try to match up the largest - tides with daylight hours each day during the period of a week or so. Managed to do that but predicted - tides will only run from -0.7L to -0.4L during the period. Would like to get down there for the Jan. - tides but I can't and I'm not sure that they would line up with daylight hours anyway. No night hunting for me. Incidentally, during Jan., - tides are predicted to be greater than -1.0L for at least 3 days at Pier 21.

Are low tides sometimes much greater than -1.0L? Noticed you mentioned Spring and Summer - tides as worth looking into. Are they allowing hunting or will there be a wait until they pump the sand back on the beaches? Maybe the Gulf will get things rearranged real quick.

Yes some of the -tides are lower. Go to wwwtideandcurrentpredictor and use only
the stations in bold type. Scroll down on options and you can look as far ahead as
two years. Do not know if they are stopping people from going on the beach or not
as I have not been there lately.

Again, Thanks for the info. Using the info on Pier 21 and Jamaica Beach gives me a good idea of exactly when some of the areas in between are predicted to be totally low. For those who study the beach, I'm sure "IKE" threw in a few extra variables but maybe that will work to my advantage.
