Gamma 6000 Ground Balance

I picked up a Gamma 6000 last week and when I attempt to ground balance the first time I got a "siren" sound and two dashes. The manual states that this should only happen if you are trying to ground grab over highly mineralized soil or wet salt. Using my F-75 the ground in my back yard gives me a GB number of 59-60 with no problem. I don't really understand why the Gamma is giving me the alarm when the soil is not hot. I know there are not that many Gamma users out there yet but if anybody else has experienced this I would like to hear from you. Furthermore, does the Omega share the same "siren" sound when attempting to ground grab over wet salt or hot soil? Other than the coil and a few features the machines look pretty similar on paper.

Hi Leo,
I have three of the Tek Titanium series (Omega, Gamma, Delta) and of the three, my Gamma does what your's is doing with the "space invader" sound when it ground balances more often than not. I know that is supposed to be an alarm for when the detector can't balance because of metal present or severe mineralization but for some reason, the Gamma makes that sound a lot and especially when I'm raising the coil as I do the "bob" thing. At least on mine, and in spite of the alarm sound, it does balance appropriately. So providing you see the ground phase number change from the 82 pre-set to something else and stay at that number in a fairly stable manner, you should be good to go. If and when it does make this sound and the two dashes come up on the display, I'd suspect you are in fact over a metal object. One thing to make sure of is that you either FG in all metal OR if in disc, make sure you drop the preset level of 10 down to "0". This way you will be able to tell if you are trying to balance over a ferrous object. The air tests I saw weren't extraordinary BUT the in ground performance has been VERY good! I got to see that the very first day out with my Gamma but it happened because the coins were available at decent depth at the first two sites I took it to AND the Gamma was capable. I bet yours is too. It sniffed a lot of old coins out the F-75 and T-2 didn't three months prior. At least part of that might be the difference between fall and spring conditions but again, the Gamma is a lot easier to make run smooth and when it's smooth, you can at times hear some things that you may have missed when "running in the noise". Despite the annoying sound the Gamma 6000 does indeed ground balance appropriately. I was just curious if others were seeing the same idiosyncrasy. There are a couple of you-tube videos available on-line and one user demonstrates the ground grab technique and the "space invader" sound is easily heard; however, in the other video the sound is not heard when he operator ground grabs.
