Garmin eTrex Venture HC

I'm thinking of buying a Garmin eTrex Venture HC. Can anyone tell me if this is a good GPS for a first time user? I metal detect as a hobby and would like to be able to download maps of local area. I want to stay under $200 in price.
 
i've got the venture and really like it. I really want to buy the road maps to load into it just bought a new detector will have to wait.
