garrett 1500

Just a couple of ideas. Make sure you are running the max sensitivity that the conditions will allow. If the site isn't too trashy increase the sens until you get falsing then back up 1 notch. Keep the coil level while swinging and keep the coil wire wrapped tight on the shaft, this will help with falsing at higher sens. Use lower disc levels ie relic mode. Coins at max depth and on the edge of your sweep will read lower on the scale. Use the imaging to help determine which deep targets to dig, dig the iffy signals that size B or give the cone effect. If the area is clean enough go to the 12.5" coil you'll get another 2" of depth in moderate to good soil. Minelabs are good machines(I've owned an Explorer and have a Sov now) but the 1500 can compete, no matter what CC says. Good Luck!

it would be in the same status as the Minelab forum here. Garrett is just not as involved with the forum like the Minelab ones.
Those from a time ago, remember the original Finds Minelab forum, the first forum here. It was started because of all the crap Minelab users received at other forums.
I'm sure that's the reason the both Minelab forums are the most popular out there now. <img src="/metal/html/shrug.gif" border=0 width=37 height=15 alt=":shrug">
Mr. Bill

post was requesting help with the 1500. It seems that you were using the opportunity to remind us that you think the Explorer is superior, which is not what the post ask for. Good Hunting to you and I do think you have a lot of impressive finds. RandyNC

Thanks for the advice and tips on how to get the most out of my 1500. Greatly appreciated.

Hey Randy, I didn't mean to sound like I was ticked (if I did) just really asking why.
The post was asking how to compete with the Explorer which I figure is plenty of just cause to give my opinion (since I have many hours on both) I really can't believe how brand loyal some people are to refuse to believe that their is something better out there. (general statement) I totally agree there are better detectors for each particular person, but when people say..."a garrett goes as deep" that just cracks me up. When I stand there and point out a super deep enfield bullet to my gti 1500 using partner and he looks at me and doesn't get a peep, I think it's fair to say the explorer has a "little" edge on depth. I'm not bashing anything here just telling it the way it is.
For the record the poster posted the same message on the Explorer forum and I believe I was the only one to reply trying to help.
