....Garrett Gold Scorpion Clone??

....I recently acquired a D-Tex Money King Motion series......it was of their futuristic series which was very liteweight and compact and sleek....... right before they went bankrupt.....made in 1983??....Anyway it reminds me of the Garrett Gold Scorpion....it also runs on 15 KHZ...and because it does..... hits very strongly and hard on the Nickel and Gold Rings...it hits hard on the other higher denomation coins also but actually hits harder on the nickel....also the audio is such that a weak or deep signal is heard as such.....some of the newer motion detectors the audio sounds the same if the coin is shallow or deep ..on the handle it has a button to switch modes for the All-Metal Non Motion Mode to Pin-Point......it only has 2 Control Knobs....one is the On/Off Sensitivity Dial and the other one is the Discrimination Dial......because it runs at 15 KHZ....I can use the larger coils used for the Scorpion or heck even use the coils used for the old GroundHog or Gold Hunter......just need to change out the coil connector......I was thinking about getting a Scorpion or even the new AT Pro......but i do not know right now......this little detector can really hunt with the big boys.........LOL.......Joe

I know exactly what you are saying about deep or small targets while using the Scorpion. I have been at this a short time I can tell nickel, dime, quarter sound. The penny comes in at almost the same sound as the nickel but not as hard. Have fun with that 15 KHZ machine. Dig'em All

Last year I acquired a non metered, single tone machine. To help me learn how to 'read' the tone I enlisted my wife's help. Out on the frozen lawn she would place 5 objects, a penny, nickle, dime, quarter and pulltab, about 18 inches apart and covered with small boards so I could not see what I was 'finding.' I would go out and run the coil back and forth over these scrap boards and try to decipher what the tone was telling me. I would jot down my findings and report back inside to get my test graded. If I was wrong, and I was a lot at first, I would brave the cold again and try again and again till I get all 5 right. You might be surprised how quickly your ears become attuned to what the machine is telling you when it's freezing cold out and you are lightly dressed because you didn't think you would be out there very long. Ha! Guess again. I may have appeared to be nuts to my neighbors, but it sure paid off in the spring when the real hunting started.

I believe that machine was built by an ex-Garrett empolyee (engineer) that quit or got fired and built his own machine to compete with Garrett.

besides being detector #1001 in your collection, I'll post a few of your pictures and then material from my website
TreasureLinx Link where you'll also find info on the other Garretts as well as
machines designed by those that worked at Garrett............
