my question is besides all the bells and whistles of the :garrett: gti 2500 what is the difference between the two ? is it depth  or would i be wasting my money by getting a :garrett: gti 2500 ?

Here's what the 2500 has that the 1500 does not:

All Metal Deepseeking Mode
Fast Track Ground Balance (All Metal Mode)
Ground Balance, Manually Adjustable
(Treasure Talk Voice Announcement) + Last Target Recall
TreasureHound Depth Multiplier (2 box) Searchcoil Option

The 2500 also has a larger lcd screen which makes depth and size a little easier to read.

Personally, I have not used these features yet other than the Treasuretalk, which in my opinion is worth the upgrade to the 2500 alone.
However, I recall reading somewhere that Garrett is eliminating the Treasuretalk feature on the future GTI2500! I hope this isn't so.

A true all metal mode (GTI 2500) is a great advantage for relic hunting and searching for older coins as it gets better depth then the discrimination mode.. It would be the better of the two if you also wanted to do a little prospecting for gold, as it can also be ground balanced to get better response in higher mineralized soil. If you just want to search schools, sports fields and dry beaches for common targets found in these areas, the GTI 1500 or GTP 1350 should serve you well.

I guess you have to ask yourself what kind of targets you want to find......

2500 is a bit different with extra features and all metal that gets depth the 1500 could only dream about. A few years back I pulled three Barbers out of one hole under a tree root at a measured 14 inches with my 2500 in coins mode. Try that with a 1500.
