Wonder how long before they start claiming "match-head sized nuggets at 3 feet" ?????? I hope they don't start down that Minelab path of "Super-Hype". That will only hurt their business and reputation like it did for ML.

Hi All,
From what we are getting from Minelab dealers & distributors down under Minelab IS concerned especially with all the problems with the Extreme and Explorer. They are losing boo-koo bucks on sales of those machines. I don't know about all Garretts claims on depth but do know it beat out the GP Extreme on depth at various places.
I too hope there isn't a lot of advertising hype on the new Garrett.

Hi Hardnose,
Poor Design, Quality Control, Stability, Difficult to Read Screen, Learning Curve, Tone ID Separation and Weight to name a few. The Sov XS-2A will lock step with it with the right coil and for a lot less money. Believe me Minelab knows they screwed up. Just wait to see a new design when they upgrade.

Hi Bill,
I know the Explorer is not a nugget machine.
I was refering to the two Minelab machines in general. The Goldquest is a good machine and yes even good on flakes but most noteworthy its a feather weight where the GP is heavvvvvy! Sorry but I don't see where I said Garrett is advertising it beats the GP Extreme. But it is getting gold in some areas that SD's and GP's are missing. Look I'm not a fan of Garrett machines for I feel he took a back seat in the technology/hobbie field for too long. Sure he made a fortune in the security field but remember he did more at the git-go for the electronic prospector than anybody for quite a number of years. So now maybe he's doing a three sixty (return to square one) and like a lot of us fed up with seeing everybody being ripped of by paying $3500. for a $1000. machine. I really hope the Garrett is going to be what I am hearing from friends in Aussieland. It's May 19th. Lets see what happens when we get a hold of the American version.

P.S. Another PI detector is on the horizon. The Titan Project. The 2nd prototype pulse machine is ready for field testing.

Yes I think your right Bill, 8AA batterys 12 hours between recharges doesn`t sound very powerful, three discrimination options bet they don`t work in our gold fields [at your own risk!] sounds like a reworked sea hunter with auto ground tracking I don`t think it will be in the same class as the SD/GP`s or Eric`s high power detectors but know doubt it will have it`s place in the market it sounds like a good duel purpose machine beach and nugget hunting I like the box.

The White`s gold machines will also find gold that the SD/GP`s won`t it depends on ground conditions and the size of the nuggets but with the new after market coils the M/lab machines are closing the gap.

Certain PI machines of the past (the Fisher Impulse for instance) incorporated a current re-capture circuit that actually fed the current through the coil and back into the battery. Such configurations make for very good battery life. Alot can be accomplished with 8-AA batteries, still putting out 12 volts.... how ever the machine is designed to "use" those volts.
Just a thought.....

You should get your facts straight. Minelab never claimed anything like "match-head sized nuggets at 3 feet" ??????" It was a mob that also sell withchcraft type detectors that made this rather stupid claim. AS for the new Garrett I just hope it is not just a revamped Sea Hunter which did not have all that great a performance. Time will tell
Cheers

....And YES, Minelab did (early on) make the claim, in print, IN WRITING in their own ads that their SD would find match-head sized gold nuggets at 3 feet deep. Many of us who were around in the early days of the SD development remember very well those early ads from Minelab. Fortunately, Minelab got raked across the coals for such claims, and they retracted much of that early hype for their machines. I saw these ads with my own two eyes, as did many others. Just as around, and you're sure to find a couple of others who remember those ads too.... though Minelab would rather they were forgotten and never mentioned again. Try Chris Hake, Steve Charley, or Les Lowe. I'm sure Chris remembers them, and probably the others too. These ads were imaged on several of the prospecting forums several years ago, and I'm sure you can still find copies of their early advertising materials with those claims in big bold lettering. No "mob" involved Steve..... it came straight from Minelab.

With the exception of the new Sea Hunter Mk II, the Sea Hunters were designed for diving work. There

Hi Kris,
You are right! I have a whites V/SAT and A GMT that will find pinhead and rice grain size nuggets in ground where the SDs/GPs get skunked. The Minelabs will find larger nuggets such as 2.5-3.5 dwt.(pennyweight) and up but in like ground so will the Whites. Also you have to factor in that there is more of the smaller stuff being found than nuggets of larger size and up mentioned. Another factor to consider. Would you rather swing a 3.8lb. GMT all day and find something or Swing a 5.3lb. SD/GP(excluding battery) and get NADA? Not all areas where gold is found is flat ground. Sides of hills, tailing piles, mine walls etc. Think about how long you would last physicaly under those conditions. Yo Arnie!
Now I'm not saying the SDs/GPs aren't good gold machines, just stating some facts. I believe the GMT is the best iron dicriminator bar none. Also I can see no reason why all PI machines can't weigh the same as the Goldquest SS. I predict one day they will!

Hi Ralph,
I too saw those ads and it pissed off a lot of people who bought those SDs. Distributors and dealers were frantic about all the problems related to those false claims by Minelab when customers started hauling them back and it left them to deal with Minelab. I don't forsee any false claims by Garrett on their new Infinium PI
contrary to what some people on the various forums
predict. I'm rooting for Garrett on this one and I stand by what I have said before. When you buy a GP you are paying $3500. for a $1000. machine.

Sorry Ralph you are WRONG totaly absolutely without a doubt in error etc. Have a look at my reply on the Finders Forum.
