Garrett Pro Pinpointer, has anyone cut the speaker wires?

BK

New member
I dont care about the warranty. I dont want to use tape or cork. Its a nice pinpointer but i want zero audio. Maybe garrett will offer vibrate only on there next model.

Somebody had posted a link to some guy's site that showed how he did it. I tried to search for it, but I guess it was more than a month ago.

I'm sure someone can supply the link.

You can't simply cut the speaker wires. The Peizo speaker is mounted directly to the board. It will have to be desoldered from the board. I took mine apart to see what I needed to mount a small switch to turn the speaker on/off. My ground is frozen here and I was looking at modding the probe. You can mess up the locking micro switch if you don't take it apart correctly. If you do take the speaker off the board you'll need to fill the external speaker holes to prevent water from entering. The Peizo speakers are waterproof by nature and the case is sealed to the speaker with a rubber washer. So if you take the speaker out you'll be left with open holes where the speaker is. It is doable if you know how to solder and desolder?

Never tried that. You might check with Garrett to see if it would cause any problems. Contact Melinda at Melinda.Harper@garrett.com
