Garrett Pro Pointer double the sensitivity

Many of you know the 'coin trick' to double the sensitivity of the Garrett Pro Pointer. I used a washer, instead of a coin, in this configuration.
I used a heavy fishing line and positioned the electrical tape on each end to hold it against the side of the unit. The washer should be in this position to slide it easier.
The first photo (left) shows the washer at normal sensitivity. The second photo (right) shows the washer moving forward to increase (double) the sensitivity.
As everyone knows, you slide it forward until one hears the chirping then you slide it back until the chirping just stops. This should about double your sensitivity.
This design will allow you to easily put your Pro Pointer in it's holder. You should get up to 4" on some coins.

There is, but I don't know where they are. Last year I saw a video demonstration of the Pro Pointer
showing the coin or washer trick. It really works. Most people hold the coin with their thumb against
the Pro Pointer which can be awkward, so I thought this idea would be easier.
I'm sure some one on this forum can supply you with the threads for this.
I get a 4" depth with a quarter. Normal is about 2".

THANK YOU
you solved the issues about testing each time I use the pro pointer and
I will definitely use your technique

banditicey,

Go to 'You Tube'. The title of the demonstration is: "How to get more depth from your Garrett Pro Pointer.mp4"

thanks for the original post and the follow up with the name of the youtube demonstration. I actually think I'll give your washer trick a try. I only have use of one arm, so attaching it would be much more convenient for me.

huskerfan72,

There isn't much in the way of pin-pointers that can go deeper than this set-up.
The Pistol Probe will go deeper by about 1" to 2", but will not work very well
with the Minelab E-Trac, Safari and SE Pro because their FBS technology
causes signal interference between these Detectors and the Pistol Probe.
I have a Pistol Probe and the E-Trac and the Probe is useless unless I
put down the E-Trac at least 5 feet away and adjust the frequencies on the Pistol Probe
and it's still iffy with some static. If you turn off these detectors, then it will work fine.
The Probe will work good with a single frequency detector.
I still like the Garrett Pro Pointer with its variable tone and small size.
As you can see my configuration is simple to set up and cheaply also and should help
you with your handicap.
Good Luck.

We are supposed to get rain over the next couple of days, and then mostly sunny and into the upper 70's and lower 80's for this weekend. Should be ideal conditions for testing this and my wireless headphones. I can't wait! Thanks for all of the info!

. Like many others I use this probe with my E-TRAC and wish it had more depth. I will be trying out this trick tomorrow morning

Thank you for sharing this info.

Please let me know if (it should) this works for you. If you look at the 'You Tube' video, it
shows you proof that it will dramatically increase your depth sensitivity.

One thing I forgot to mention is that when you adjust the washer to the increased sensitivity,
you can easily detect a 6 grain Gold nugget.

Your Garrett Pro Pointer has slight fluctuations in detecting sensitivity every time you turn it on
depending on it's circuitry or battery strength, so if you tape the coin in one position it may not work in that same position the next day
relating to maximum sensitivity.
I have tried to tape it in one position and it didn't work for me. You can try and it may work for you.
