Garrett Sea Hunter Mark II

Hunting Partner had the same problem, replaced coil , Fixed. His did have times where it would act erratic as soon as it got wet, salt water. Never really figured if it was the coil or the cable, but once replaced with a new coil from Kelly co all was like new, Good Luck......Joe

Thanks. I don't have one yet but have been considering it, and thought I had read a post somewhere about some issues with it.

I have quite a bit of experience with the Mark II and used the units exclusively, when I started the hobby in '04-'05. It is a PI and reads the increase in the wave's mineralization. The best way to overcome this phenomenon is to stop the swing as the wave passes by and continue the sweep then.

The lower part of the coil should be coated with Loctite Marine Expoxy too, to avoid rubbing through the stock epoxy, as there is no coil cover available for the 8" coil. If you DON'T coat it, then the epoxy will rub through and split the epoxy away from the hard plastic overcoat and the unit will false, till the coil is replaced. Be sure to check the coil, if you have been running it for a time to see if there is any splitting or cracking already, before coating it.

Also, if you are considering buying it because it is advertised as a discriminating submersible, think again. The discrimination will only cut out the gold from the equation. 0 on discrimination/elimination and Standard Trash Elimination is the only way to run to get the gold and along with that come the nails and bobby pins. It was difficult to tell the difference between the good and bad, but non-ferrous for the most part was cleaner and sharper. Hope this helps.

All your missing is a pirate hat and a flintlock pitol and I would say you'd make a good pirate portrait....lol. And that's a compliment in my book.

don't forget the Patch and Parrot :super:
