Garrett's new water machine!!

How good is the new Pulse disc from Garrett? Has anyone got anything to say about it? Is the discreet pulse disc , as good as some claim. I'm ready to take notes, give me the plus and the minus of the situation. Thanx.

IMHO, (and experience) any use of the discriminator is going to greatly reduce the sensitivity to small items, especially gold, and greatly reduce your depth.
To me, the beauty of pulse induction is it's simplicity. It detects all metals and you dig all your hits. Do you finds lots of junk this way? Sure, But you also find lots more goodies as well.

I checked Garrett's site and came to the conclusion that their discrimination is limited to the rejection of only certain non ferrous items. Garrett makes no claim as to iron rejection. My friend and I have been working for some time on a ferrous - non ferrous discrimination circuit to reject iron and provide a PI which will work in highly mineralized ground without any loss of depth. I think that we are very close to completion. I see little use for anything other than a ferrous - non ferrous descrimination for any type of detector. Our discrimination method will enable a PI to be used on inland sites where the biggest enemy is old rusty nails. I understand that there are a few beaches with a lot of nails on them as well! DAVE I'M GLAD TO KNOW SOMEONE IS WORKING ON ONE. I HAVE ACCESS TO A GOLDSCAN-4 WHICH WILL KNOCK OUT IRON (FROM FOSTER) IT WORKS GREAT BUT YOU LOOSE GREAT DEPTH DOING IT.

Hi Dave,
I have had the chance to work with a PI detector that could ID the difference between ferrous, and non-ferrous material.
It could differentiate between both, while in salt water, or on mineralized ground. The problem came in with being able to do it in salt water, and mineralized ground at the same time. The salt being + positive conductive, and the mineralized ground being - negative magnetic. At least it

your "beat freq" idea . I hope Eric will be interested as it gets closer to completion.
Or are you thinking about making your own PI detector with this circuit added ?
Please also heed what Mr.Bill has said (minerals/saltwater together) let us know how it's coming.

Russ, A while ago there was a lot of discussion given to paying Eric's expenses to do some R&D. Eric has given a heck of a lot to all of us. He does not believe in hiding his vast knowledge. My idea is that those of us who work in electronics should do some of the R&D for him. Right now there is myself here in North Carolina and Mark Pauls in Denmark working on the iron discrimination problem. A friend of mine, Pierre Abbat, a well known math guru is helping by doing a lot of computer circuit modeling and graphing etc. We are also working on improving some of the standard PI circuits. I know from reading past postings that there are a number of electronic engineers who visit here. How about some more volunteers? There is more than electronics work that needs to be done. How about those of you with mechanical abilities. There are a lot of mechanical problems which can be addressed such as waterproofing cases and controls, or finding and testing new moldable liquid plastics for use in making search coils. I bet Eric could come up with quite a good list of things that need doing. Dave. * * *

Interesting that you mention that as I popped in at one stage and offered my services. I saw the positive response and supplied Eric with cct and block diagram details for him to evaluate. I sent in good faith and against better business judgement (you don't give your secrets to any outsiders). I haven't had a reply to one of my emails since February... AND I have sent many right up to 3rd April. Still no response. I am not particularly worried as I wanted mainly to help the prospecting community. BUT I won't do it again....

Ismael.
Apologies for the unanswered emails. Had I answered, I would not have been able to report anything as I cannot access your block diagram; in fact I cannot even locate the file on my computer. Top of my list of things to do is find out how to delete or move a corrupted .dll file. I have tried all manner of things, but get the message

Eric,
Try this if you haven't already. In DOS, type:
attrib (name).dll
See if it shows the "R" attribute. If so, and you want to delete the file then type:
attrib -R (name).dll
Then type:
attrib (name).dll
Hopefully it will only show the "A" attribute left on (no "R" attribute on anymore).
If so, then type:
del (name).dll
Then the file should be gone.
Also, I wrote you an email last year to check your appetite for a business proposition with no answer, I just assumed you weren't interested.
Hope this helps,
Charles

Hi Eric
Let us know which kind of file you can NOT open, maybe this could point out the problem.
What version of Windows are you using ?.
Mark

Just for those wondering, I sent Eric PDF created in version 4 of Acrobat.
To ERIC, I understand problems and really only tried to spark a response from you. I'm also a computer consultant (my main profession actually, electronics is a recently revived profession to me), let me know what the problems are, via email and I will try to suggest or guide you through, can even phone if need arises.
Rgds Ismael
