g'day one and all,yesterday i returned my pro pointer back to the retailer that i bought it from.i bought it on the forth of april,2009.in the last couple of months it wouldn't detune over a target.now the sensitivity is just about non existent.new batteries have no effect on performance.i don't think it has been treated harshly,being a pensioner i try to look after my things.anybody else have these problems?bye for now,blowfly,hh

G'day Blowfly.
It's good to see you over on this forum. Sorry to hear that you had a dud. Sounds like my first X-Terra. Had a lot of problems with that for a while. After several send backs, it finally got sorted out. Glad I stuck it out. I'd put the Pro Pointer in the same basket. They're great little devices, if you feel up to persevering with it. About the only thing I'm not that much fussed on, is the volume of them. Put some blue tack in the speaker hole and problem solved. Over all, they are hard to beat for overall performance. The only 2 other units in the same ball park, is the in-line probe, which is restricted to the detector they are attached to, or the Uniprobes. They do go deeper but more bulky and I find that I'm always knocking the nobs on mine. Much prefer the depth and compactness the the Pro Pointer.

g'day mick,i run two pin pointers.a bulls eye and a pro, the bulls eye for shallow targets,the pro for the deeper ones.if i don't find it with the bulls eye,then i 'll pull out the pro.and yes a piece of tape over the sound hole tends to keep curios onlookers at bay.this is my third bulls eye,when the button dies in warranty,you ring them and they send you a new one.i hope garrett are the same.i always go to the forum thats deals with the particular item that i have because those people normally have more knowledge on the problem.the missus wants to get away from her sufficating parents and said why don't we move to dubbo to live.i said no,no,theirs a bloke down there named evans who would probaly freak out if i turned up in one of his hunting grounds with an other detector,lol.she wants to move south,so i said what about woolongong,from what i hear that's a rich little area.bye for now,blowfly

Did you get a new one? It should have been replaced on the spot. I've had mine since before they came on the market and haven't had an ounce of problems with it. Anytime there is a problem Garrett just gives the owner a new one.

especially seeing werewolf cracking a $1000 in a single month! Oh, did I mention that Sydney is only 45 Min's up the road!
Dubbo is pretty dead as far as detecting goes. Pretty isolated too. It's a hundred miles to the closest town that has a population greater than 10000 people (Orange). The next closest is 60kms the other side of it,Bathurst. The car race circuit would be pretty good to hunt though. It's 210kms away. At that point I'm over half way to Sydney.

Re the Pro Pointer - I swore I would never need one but now I use it for every target, they are that good.

Mick - have you convinced the wife to move back to the big smoke yet??

Actually; as I type this, she should be arriving in Sydney. I should be there armed with a detector. but had to stay back with the youngest, who will be going down there in a couple of days, but I'm still stuck back here with work. If I could secure income that would support the increased cost of accommodation, I would have her on board. The eldest is in year 11 at the moment and to move before he finishes school would be a bad idea. It didn't stop me from drooling over the real estate prices of homes around Penrith though. When I drove through there six months back, it felt like I was back home. I'll probably stay put for the next 4 to 5 years. After that, I'll allow my feet to get itchy.

g'day mick and steve,no just thought i'd stir the possum.besides it's too cold down there,you gotta sleep with blankets.we sleep a la naturalle up here.yes i got the clean sweep,heavy monster,i'm making a harness with an occy strap to take the weight off the arm.as i said before detector 3.5lbs +1.5lbs=5lb in the old scale,heavy little outfit now.no european ancestry my family,steve.i notice the weight that's why i use tesoro's.robert[blowfly]
