has anybody experienced the short life of the pro pointer in wet muddy conditions?i have had two in three years years and both have died by allowing dirt and grime to penetrate through the button access.not funny,$150.00 a throw.i try to keep them as clean as possible when in the field.great pointer when it's working.blowfly

I have used mine a ton. I have to wash it all the time with water. I've taken the rubber button cover off a few times and never saw where mud or water was getting by. They have a two year warranty on them so you should have sent them back. How do you know the rubber button was breached? Is the foam still intact under the battery cap? If not put a nickel on the bottom of the battery and screw the cap back on.

I have had mine so muddy I had a hard time turning it on. when I hunt in the rain I get it so muddy its hard to tell what it is. Have had it a year and a half with no problems. paid 127.00 for it. I have dropped that thing so many times in parking lots and on rocks and I could go on and on and never have had a problem with it. Kinda thought they were undestructable. Maybe I have just been lucky I did tape the speaker over with black tape but thats about it. best of luck to you.

It's coming in thru the speaker and light holes, mainly the light hole. It's open direct to the board inside. I use waterproof marine silicone and then tape over with waterproof Mr. Fix-it tape to seal them up. Who needs a light and speaker anyway? Unfortunately, you can still hear the danged speaker!!!

[size=large]BCD has the answer. ya gotta seal all the entrances. it's water resistant not proof. and as you found out mud gets into everything. one guy has siliconed his up enoigh to go under water with it. just relizes on vibrations. could be maybe one of your friends can bring them back to life if electrically qualified.

I put a piece of tape over my pin point button. Electrical tape of even duct tape will do.

I would miss the light. Maybe I am a fair weathered hunter, but my PP does not get crudely dirty enough to give concerns over any dirt getting inside the thing. I generally take the same care for the PP as I do for the detector when in use. Sure, the PP gets some abuse but it hasn't attacked the remote spots such as the speaker and light yet. I think that a lot of the problems may arise from lax technique methods by the users. jm2c. martin

I've had mine for over 2 years now and it has been in all kinds of muck without an issue. Occasionally I have to clean out the speaker slot because it gets caked with mud. I've seen people use marine sealant called "Goop" to seal the button, light and speaker holes and use them under water.
