I am interested in purchasing either garretts 2500 or 1500 models. Is their a major diference besides price? Is "imaging" feature a marketing hype or is it worth the extra money? Can you give me some insight on these models also?

Yes there is a major difference- all metal for one. And once you use imaging it will spoil you for any other detector.
