I field tested the prototype a couple of months ago and am now checking out the production model. The PP is a microprocessor controlled, non-motion, all metal, pointer that operates at maximum sensitivity and needs no tuning or adjustment. It can be detuned over a large target. It operates at 12 khz so is sensitive to small objects. Has a depth of about two inches plus and comes with a nifty little holster. And like all Garrett products it's tough as a tank. .Size is nine inches by 1.5 inches and weighs a mere 7 ozs.
Has both audible and vibrating alerts that increase in intensity the closer you get to the target. Comes with a 3.75 - inch sifting blade on the side plus an LED light. Has side-scan capability, can be used in the rain, washed off under running water, and submerged to just below the speaker. Just press the power switch, the LED light comes on, a slight beep will be heard, and you're ready to go.
The PP uses one nine-volt battery. An alkaline lasts 30 houirs ( carbon and rechargeable less ) and battery change is a snap. Just unscrew the end, drop the dead battery out, and a new one in. Emits a dual-tone alarm when battery is low. The PP can also be used to scan walls for pipes, wires, nails, metal studs, etc.
I am still checking out the production model and I really like this little puppy and it works like a charm and should be a welcome addition to anyone's arsenal of detecting equipment. I'll keep you posted on how it works. Dealers should be getting them now and release date is around September first.
