GB Question - Hate to even ask

AZWIP

Howdy folks, ok, this is probably a really dumb question... and I'm almost too embarrassed to ask....

I "think" I get it, but am not sure.... so, here goes...

When i set the Manual GB say to 85, is that the same thing as setting DISC or NOTCH to 85?

I guess I'm asking, if GB is set to 85, will it no longer signal on anything with an ID of 85 (I get it its not like DISC where it will shut out 85 or less... but will it shutout - for lack of the proper term - anything with an ID of 85)?

I "think" GB is "different" than DISC or NOTCH for matter, as it may be in a realm unto itself and that setting a GB of 85 is indeed NOT like setting a DISC or NOTCH to 85.

Foe example a dime comes in as a 91, if I set GB to 91, would I no longer get that dime?

Thanks!

Ron F.

:usaf: I will take a brief stab at this, sure others will have more for you. Ground balance will effect sensitivity one way or another depending on how well you GB. It does not effect your disc or notch settings, they are a different beast. Ground balance is simply calibrating your machine to the soils surrounding your search areas. Depending on your location you may only have to GB once a day, other locations you mat have to GB several times a day. Always GB first following your manuals procedure. Then establish you disc and or notch settings per your preference. Remember a notch is a segment of the ID range. Ground balance, disc, and notch are three different things. Keep them separate in your mind.

ground balance tries to minimize the effects of ground mineralization so that the detector isn't seeing the minerals, like iron in the soil , not chuncks of iron. if ground balanced it would be like the detector doesn't know that there are any minerals in the ground. disc tries to start eliminating anything under the coil up to where it is set. the higher the disc to less deep you can get as well. notch shuts off the audio only and is not discriminating. so for instance at 12khz a nickle usually comes in around 55 TID so if you set notch from 50 to 60 you won't hear anything but the detector is still seeing it and reporting it but you won't hear it but if you look at your display it will show a TID but you won't hear it.
too much info or did any of this help?

Great! Thanks for the info folks, I really appreciate the explanations and your time.

I think I've got it, lol.

GB has nada to do with Disc and Notch.... only mineralization.... hence, if my GB was set to 88...
indeed I am NOT going to lose any hits that have an ID of 88 - 2 different things entirely....

I guess that was my biggest confusion... thinking that GB was same as TID... so if GB was at 92, I would not hit
on items that has a TID of 92. Not true though.... if GB = 92 (that is NOT a TID, it is Mineral level)... I will still hit on TID of 92 (like a dime).

Tricky. Lol

I appreciate it folks, ya'll rock.

Deus has one of the best ground cancelling systems if not the best its why it shines.

but have a fiddle and see where those dimes hit hardest when changing the GB.

most of all have fun.
