Georgia Detecting

Well if all goes right I may be trading in the black soil of the midwest for the red clay of Georgia. I had an interview Monday and it seemed to go well. They said they would get back to me in the next couple days with an offer. Let the negotiations begin. My question is, around the Statesboro area, in the Macon, Augusta, Savannah triangle, what can I expect? Is there any of you in the area? How's the hunting? I hunt mostly coins now but enjoy relic hunting when I get to the East Coast. I've been swinging for close to 9 years now, average about 10-15 hours a week. I have spent as much as 40+ hours in a week when I can. I swing several machines, Explorer XS, Sovereign Elite, C$, CZ70 Pro and a CZ20. I'm posting this on the C$ forum also. Any info would be great.
Thanks,
Dirtdog

hi i was reading you posts about detecting in savannah and was woundering if you found any thing of interest to hunt at , which area did you go to and was anything good in the ground you found

I lived in the Statesboro/Savannah region from August 2001 until March of this year, there are amazing homesteads to detect in the region, including Swainsboro. Claxton is another great place to detect. The Hwy 80 corridor between Statesboro and Savannah is also rich with old homesteads dating as far back as the 1700s. I've never detected in Savannah other than beach hunting because of the whole relic/antiquity law issues, but I know there is a detecting club that meets in Richmond Hill I believe. I'm sure they know the best spots to swing a coil on the coast. I'm a Freemason at Solomon's Lodge in downtown Savannah and I graduated from Georgia Southern University in Statesboro, so I'm in the area as much as possible despite having moved to Atlanta. I'd enjoy a good outing with you or anyone in the South Georgia area if we can plan one. I'm not swinging as big a gun as you Explorer II and SE users, just a single frequency White's XLT, so I promise I won't find the good loot! It'll be all yours! That makes for the best kind of hunting partner, right? Anyway, good luck with the potential move and if you make it to the area, happy hunting. Check out a Georgia Southern football game if you get a chance in the fall.
