Georgian Era Wax Seal

Fog...... a really great find there! Can you tell us where your located and what the tid's etc; were on the seal? This remarkable find begs for a back story!! and finding something this old, I would imagine there's a lot more old stuff and maybe coins from that era! Awesome find:thumbup:

KSCHAE4 I wish I knew who it was on the seal, your guess is as good as mine. It's unusual to find them whole, usually the stamp piece is missing.

Hello Goldstrike, I live on the north shore in massachusetts so i'm in a prime local for colonial finds. The area I found this has been hit hard, but for good reason. The day I found this wax seal I detected for 6 hours, I dug 7 targets... 5 shotgun shells, a flattered musket ball and the wax seal. You can go over an hour sometimes with no dig gable targets, but when you find something there's a good chance it.s something cool. We've found some decent colonial coins there, william and mary, KG2', KG3, reales etc. Some nice old buttons as well. This rang in at about 18 on the safari, which falls in line with most shotgun shells. It was a tone I wasn't really excited about but as soon as I pulled it I knew what it was. when I get some proper wax I will make a seal and post it.

Fog........thanks so much for the info; It would be a thrill to live near historical sites as you do! I can only imagine how excited you felt when you dug this seal up:thumbup:

You're welcome Gold.

Massachusetts is a historical site ;) Anywhere there are woods you can assume it was a farm field at one time. I believe they deforested over 80 percent of the state for agriculture and timber at one point, so as long as their isn't pavement over the ground you have a chance of finding anything from 1600's to present. And yes I was pretty excited to find it, more so than if I had found a reale, or King George, Large Cent , Seated etc.

Fog- continued good hunting to you. We were up in Boston a few months ago and I was salivating at the thought of detecting historic sites like Boston Commons and others around the Freedom trail. I'd guess detecting is strictly prohibited .

Yeah The Freedom Trail is part of the National Park Service. I think if you even got permission to detect Boston Commons the machine would just overload from all the clad, pull tabs, etc. It's mind boggling whats under all the pavement though.

Totally awesome find....i found the glass part of one with just a thin lining of the metal left around it ... yours is in great condition and cool pattern. ...congrats on an awesome find....
